Hey gang. This is a match that I found while going through old Super VHS tapes, and I don't have much as far as details.

It was labeled "Lexington Banks - Bentivegna vs Nichols". From listening to the announcer at the start of the match, it sounds like it is the finals of whatever event it was. I don't know who Nichols would have been.

Can anyone help shed some light on this one?

Know that dude, Kevin Nichols from Kentucky. Banking machine back in the day. He lived in Tulsa a while. Nice guy.

Tell ya a funny KN story: this was about '88-'89ish and Kevin and his partner came to T-town. They were real young and on their first road trip. They came in Leroy's 'hall while a five handed ring game was going on: Matlock, Dick Lane, Jim McDermott, Donnie Fulks and another top local guy. After watching these guys trade runouts Kevin stopped me and asked "Does everyone in this damn town play this good?". I just laughed and kept walking. Kevin got a job at the BillardPalace and stayed a few yrs before he went back. He was the first guy i saw make some of Vernon Elliot's prop. bank shots.

Those ring games down in KaTexAhoma were legendary. I know I've told this before but playing 9-ball ring game on a bar table in Wichita one time - Matlock, Junior Brown, Gabe Owen, Jamie Bowman, James Walden, Cliff Joyner... and me. This was about 97/98 or so. And other players rotating in and out between their tournament matches.

That'll pucker your butt a little.

Sounds like Kevin is a little smarter than I am :)

You musta felt like a minnow swimmin with sharks.

First time i ever went in Shooter's-Olathe, probably '89ish, there was a payball game on the snooker table: Efren, Parica, Matlock, Walden and i think J. Wetch. The game kinda see-sawed a while then Dave hit 'em with 4 or 5pk and they all said uncle. Parica and Dave were supposed to play a set each on the big/bar table but it never went down.

Most likely the ClydeChildress event. They added banks in '85. This is in the 88-90 timeframe. Kevin was still alive as of 2022 but i heard he looked really bad. I think he had a chemical jones pretty bad.
