Jay, Thanks for the compliment. I work with players now and then, usually to give advice only when they need it. We have several players at Danny K's who have honed their games for years and are really competitive now, like Ramin Biakhtiari, Johnny Kang, Mike Laos and a few others. I believe improving in pool comes more from good, healthy competition (preferrably tournaments), practice and a willingness to learn new ways.
Any time you're in Danny K's, just ask and you'll receive a lot of good help.

BTW, we have the longest running weekly tournaments in the nation (15 years now). Five days a week and always a lot of good competition.

Hey Danny...Don't forget about Joey in CA (Joey B.). He has improved a bunch, and mentioned playing pretty well, in some of your events! I think he's spending lots of time in the P.I. lately! Doesn't make a bad cue either! :D

On another front, I'd like to personally thank you, for all the hospitality you and your staff have shown me, any time I come in to your room, to do private lessons. Everyone is always very friendly, and very helpful. It's a pleasure to teach at Danny K's! Hope to be in there again in November!

I've been to AuntyDan's house twice now, and it is first rate, in every way!
I've got to get back again, for your wife's excellent 'home cookin'! Please give her my best regards, as well as the rest of your family. I'll be back in L.A. in November...perhaps we'll see each other again!

To address the original subject of this post: I'd second/third, whatever, the suggestions you go hang out as often as you can at Danny K's, or, if you can stand the traffic, Hardtimes in L.A. The best way to develop a mentoring relationship is to find a location that has as many people of a higher ability than you and develop your game with them. "When the student is ready the teacher will appear", or some such hippy nonsense, applies here.

Or you can just buy a mentor, by setting up regular lessons with a Pro, or a Pro teacher. (NOT the same thing, and finding out which will work best for you is the trick.)

To address the tangential thread, in which DogsPlayingPool cunningly inserted the seeds of the PFASOCRG*, well there is a Gold-Crown style 9' AMF table in my garage with new tournament blue Simonis on it and an open bar**. Not to mention, a mighty fine cook, in the kitchen! :D

**You just open the fridge right next to the table :-)

Scott, Glad your experience is good at Danny K's. We put Artemis rubber and Simonis on all the tables and it has really made a difference.

I'll say this about the Blue Dolphin, play downstairs always. Friendly people. The locals will play small, $40 sets I think last time. I've been there a few times and it's been fun. Never had to show full speed to win, but a great, friendly bunch of guys.

..now they'll be wondering who I am, the only hint I'll give is my wife grew up there and she might be there tonight or the next couple of days, maybe. I go there about once a year and drink a lot cause I'm on vacation. They stayed open after closing and let me smoke inside also, nice!

None of this is true. I'm a crappy teacher on account of I have no idea what I'm doing.

Bad habits and donations!

I am willing to show you all my bad habits and how to miss with dignity! I think I will be playing this Sunday at Danny Ks'. Please stop by and introduce yourself. Depending on your level of play, there are many people who are willing to share with you at Dannys'. I can introduce you to more mentors also. I am only qualified to demonstrate spilling beer on yourself! Watch out for Charles, he swings a mean bat (plays pretty sporty too)! Ring game for the rest of you (I will try to save a few dollars for a some donations!). Scott, if you are out here in November, you have a standing invite to my house for my hospitality and dinner. It would be great to see you in my neck of the woods, Kent.

I am pretty sure full rack banks ring games are part of the "Mentors-are-us" required course work. Are you and Charles putting on this class Sunday?

One day (when I'm out of my mind-again) I'll try you guys in banks. My bottom is still red from 1P spanking (required course work) and I'm still hurting from partial funding of the 5 x 10 'golf' Mentor retirement fund. (An elective class for which I didn't possess the necessary skillset)

Take care, Kent. It doesn't need saying-but, man- that's some mighty fine hitting and looking cues you make.

Say hello to "Charles"

Technically you are also qualified to teach people how to sit quietly and watch you running racks. I should know, having been treated to one of your "lessons" at Danny K's. :)

He's speaking the truth! I've seen him play. :D ;) ;) Suuup CharlesU!

I feel like I'm at Danny K's with the regs that have chimed in!
Miss being out there! On occasion I get out to a tourny. Hopefully again soon.

Danny K's is THE place in OC! Keep up the great work Danny!

Regards,

You're ON Kent! I'll let you know the dates I'll be in town, and we'll get together. I want to hit some more balls with one of your cues too! Thanks for the invite! It was good to see you in VF again!
