looking for players with ADD and/or Bi-Polar disorder

i'm not bi-polar at all.

I do have ADD and mild signs of autism.

I firmly believe that is why my game is so up and down, the difference between my good and bad days when i'm instroke is wider than any player i have ever seen, its very hard for me to focus. I cant control it, when the focus it there my game is MUCH better. I would like to figure out how to fix this.

my email is: EP90210@hotmail.com

Glad to see this thread progressing in the direction I had hoped to see. My apologies to all for my rush to judgment by simply reading the first few posts. As you might imagine, the subject is near and dear to me, and I overreacted to what I perceived as a dismissal of the OP's original attempt to obtain help.......again....my apologies for under estimating the overall goodness of the AZ community......Dan

If a doctor says you need pills for your "depression" ,you should go on vacation, or do something relaxing or exiting, what ever you love to do
away from your normal routine in life. Get out to the mountains and see
something extravagant. BUT WHAT EVER YOU DO, DO NOT GET ADDICTED
TO THE PHARMACEUTICAL DRUGS THEY PRESCRIBED TO YOU. I AM TALKING ABOUT BENZODIAZEPINE'S AND OPIATES. BOTH HIGHLY ADDICTIVE. BOTH USED BY MORE PEOPLE THAN EVER AND BOTH HAVE THE WORST WITHDRAWAL OF ANY DRUG. Should be enough to convince someone to seek more natural remedies to mental and physical problems. I am A.D.H.D., and I feel control it now because of simple breathing exercises and some relaxing activities. NOT GAMBLING. But you can play some pool. try to play without music on so you can here the ball rolling across the felt. very relaxing once it,s norml to you.

Calm down! I never said I was taking anything for depression. I thought seriously before posting publicly and decided to go ahead. You need to read my post again. I assure you, I am well aware, probably more than you, about the dangers of all that you described. I also haven't taken anything in several years. I play pool, play it for money, all kinds of stuff and it's not related to this. One reason I haven't taken anything in years is because I know very well the pit falls of addiction. My game may suffer, I can live with that {most of the time:wink:}
You are not, I believe, a doctor. I've taken medication for depression. Again, I haven't in years. But, you have no business telling ANYONE whether they should take medication or not. What you're describing as an antidote for depression does not help with clinical depression. Don't mess with people's lives.

I wasn't trying to dictate anything sir. I was saying there are other ways to deal with depression. OTHER THAN DRUGS. And I wouldn't believe a doctor in this country. Simply because making us sick is more profitable then truly curing us.

Me Too...

Folks,

ADHD here too. Didn't realize that I've got it tell a few years ago, I'm now 68 years old. I don't take any medication. I just give everybody (that's left) in my life a hard time.

My pool shooting is very, very good or very, very bad at different times. I find that wearing ear plugs helps a lot when shooting. Any little sound or distraction makes me angry.

Shooting under pressure in the league can be stressfully sometimes, sometimes not. It seems that if the first few balls fall then I'm OK. If not, I sometimes fall apart. I can make some amazing shoots at times and have beaten the best, at other times any "banger" can beat me. Inconsistent I am.

I just bought and have been reading "Pleasures of Small Motions" by Bob Fancher, Ph.D. Its helping me understand why I sometimes fold under league pressure games. I'll find out more tommorow...leauge night.

I know...too much information. Please forgive me. This post rang my bell.

bipolar disorder

Fabio Petroni has bipolar disorder. He even has his website where you can contact him. I will try to find the link and post it here later.

Can i ask exactly what symptoms are we talking about?

Is it an issue where there is no concentration/focus?
Is it an issue where there is an explosive temper?
Is it an issue about variable elevated and depressed mood swings?

I mean, what exactly seems to be the problem? Because ADHD and Bipolar disorder are two completely different things. So i'm kind of wondering if you could help me narrow it down.

Mainly related to drastic changes in concentration that occur in sync with medication either taking effect or wearing off. Sometimes there is improvement in focus when medication wear off and other times there is improvement in focus when medication kicks in and vice versa. There is also an occasional drastic mood swing. Looking for anyone with similar symptoms who has found a way to combat the inconsistency of medication when medication is needed. Essentially there is a tough balance of ADD medication when bi-polar tendencies are causing considerable mood changes from day to day.

Thanks again everyone getting some great info.

I have a pretty bad case of ADD that hasn't really gotten better with age. I recently switched to adderal (sp)... The extended release version. My concentration is definitely better! Alot better!!!!!!
However, for the first time in years, I am nervous during matches, and it just started with this medication. It also causes my already racing thoughts to be worse. I have tried several other ADD and ADHD drugs and none of them make me be able to concentrate like adderal. Take the good with the bad.....

DrOne Pocket,

The $20 gamble buying/reading "the Pleasures of Small Motions" payed off for me. After reading it (twice) I know understand why i was so nervous in league competition.

I played league last night for the first time since reading it and I was as calm as I have ever been. Shot VERY good. One time does not prove it though. We've got three more weeks to play, were two points out of first place. I'll see what happens, but I'm a lot more confident now that I know why.

dr1p, I also got to try adderall and I swear I ran 3 racks right out of the gate with it. It does work. But it also made me jittery. My leg kept going up and down when I was seated. In the long run it didn't help as much with work or my personal life so I opted out of a prescription. If my game ever reaches a total plateau it's something I could try. But probably I'll just spend that money on instruction instead.

i hear you. I did not get adderal for pool, I got it because i really have add.

Try and get a hold of Earl.... He has some sort of mental issues, I'm sure he would be glad to help... Well, actually he will talk about people putting "goop"
on the balls so that he can't win, or about Rodney Morris breaking 3 centimeters over the headstring and that caused him to lose the U.S. Open!!!!
