Looking to build a custom sneaky

Hey guys,

I'm not a cuemaker, just a player. I'm looking for a cuemaker who can build a sneaky for me from scratch. I have some beautiful Afzelia burl that I'd love to turn into a sneaky if at all possible. It's a 1.5" x 1.5" x 19.5" piece. I can get another piece if needed, but I'd like to get some info before I spend the extra money.

Here's the specs of what I'm looking for in the cue. I'd like it to have a black joint collar with brass rings, either curly or birdseye maple in the forearm (haven't decided), my Afzelia burl as the main wood, a Hoppe style ring with brass rings to define the edges and add a little more "pop" to the cue, and a black butt cap. 3/8-10 pin, or G-10 pin (never hit with one...kind of want to try it out) and weigh in around 19oz.

It looks good in my head, and nothing fancy to take away from the wood. What kind of price would I be looking at to have someone build this for me?

for a sneaky,it is only big enough for the forearm piece and i wouldn't think an Afazelia forearmed cue would hold up or play very well.it is good for points or maybe a cored handle,but not much more than that,imo.

What you describe is not a sneaky pete cue.
You are asking for a full splice custom cue.
A sneaky is supposed to look as much like a house/bar cue as possible.
That means no joint rings and no butt cap.
No fancy wood, inlays, or metal rings.

The wood you have is a poor choice for a full splice cue.
Better you should core it and use it in a nice custom job.
Better yet, sell it to a cue maker and use the money as a down payment on a real sneaky pete cue.
 
You are welcome to visit my website (www.triplecrosscues.com). Your request would run roughly $500(+ or minus $50). Your afzelia would have to be cored. That's why it's a little higher than not coring.

I talked to Scmelke one time about having some full splice made using my wood. I was told that both pieces, the prong and the butt sections had to be at least 1.5 X 1.5 X 26 inches long for them to use in their process. Wood is usually bought in 6 inch increments so I figured it would be a lot of money to get some real good Birdseye or other figured woods in 30 inch lengths to make real good figured Sneaky Pete type cues.

It's hard to find a piece that long. If I have 2 pieces at 19" each, would that work do you think?

no they wouldn't work and on top of that the wood Afazelia isn't going to work for a full slpiced cue anyway.
 
Like I said, I'm not a cue maker...so I don't know anything about the process, but I've talked with a couple guys about it trying to figure out a way to make it work.

It sounds like I might have to settle with making a plain jane cue with a wrap...is that about right?
 
Dick, Its 24" for the prong and 16-1/2" for the nose. I asked a few months ago and will probably have several made by them in the near future. Martin

Martin, you are probably right but never-the-less, 26 by 26 is what they told me. I have talked to other cue makers about why they would need so much wood for the prong and no one knew except maybe their jig set-up needed the extra. Apparently I talked to someone who didn't have the facts right or maybe I misunderstood. I had called to see if I could furnish some good Birdseye for the prong instead of just the straight grained Maple. This was long before they offered a Birdseye prong (although lacking in many Birdseye's). I was told I would have to furnish both the front and rear pieces of wood.
