Hi AZ
I am heading up to Chi town tomorrow/Friday to see the cue show on Saturday. Would like to eat some steak Friday night. Where is the best steak house while maintaining proximity to Red Shoes 20 minutes or less as we will be playing later.

Hope to see you all at the cue show.

There's a Gibson's in Oak Brook about 30 minutes away. Great steaks, but I'm sure someone will come up with something a little closer.

Why am I helping someone who has called me everything but a human.

Gene and Georgettis or the Chop House are the 2 standards and have been on the list of top 10 in the country from our Knife and Fork Club. The Cut House has been a contender also.

These are all $80-$130 dinners easily for 1 person if you get a drink, appetizer, salad, potato, steak, and something like Creme Brulee. I recomment ordering that when you are 50% of the way through your meal so it will be nice and hot. Normally takes 15 to 20 mins to get that.

Gibson's or Ditka's. there both top shelf, Both in Oakbrook. You can't go wrong with either. You might have a hard time getting into to Gibson's. There busy. I was at Ditka's last week for my daughters B-day. The "Kick Ass paddle steak" was unbelievable.

Thanks buddy, you are probably human, I actually don't think I used any bad names. Come to Chi town tomorrow we can eat some meat, hit some pool balls and probably agree on most things as long as we don't talk about touring pool duos comprised of teachers and C hustlers in-training to be a champion whatever that means.

As to location I was actually considering David Burkes but I will now reconsider and appreciate all of the information.

If you want to stay close to Red Shoes you got Louies chop house, Krapil's or Jenny's steakhouse all within 10 minutes from there.

Have you been to the Wildfire in Oak Brook? Out of the three I've always gotten a better meal & service at the Wildfire.

Ruth's Chris is about 30 minutes from Red Shoes. I've never been there, but I've been to the Chop House and the Lighthouse in Cedar Lake.
I thought The Lighthouse was the best steak I've ever had... my mom and sister said Ruth's Chris is better.

I've got TAP league tomorrow night, but if you're looking for company at Red Shoes send me a PM. I can try to swing up if you'll be there later in the evening.

Lawrys

Lawrys prime rib is the best meal not only in Chicago, but the Midwest. I've made trips from NYC just to eat there. The food there is no joke.

Have a good time Dana.

The best steak around is a Rico Benes breaded steak sandwich!
Lawrys and wildfire are both top notch if you prefer your steak without the marinara sauce and bun I guess.

some good suggestions, some bad. Stay away from Ditkas and Gibsons - they are for the tourists. Wildfire is decent but not in the same league as some of the real steakhouses in the city. If you like aged steaks David Burke's Prime house is insane. Their 40 day aged rib-eye is other-worldy. Gene and Goergettis is a good suggestions. Ruth Chris is great. If you want a little more exotic the custom house is awesome. If you do not want to venture into downtown, find a ruth Chris, of the multiple location choices (gibsons. mangums, smith and wolinski's , ruth chris is the best choice. They also have the crab cakes as well.

Rico Benes breaded steak sandwich... I use to get a half order all the time when I was a kid. good stuff.

Best steak I ever had was at Ruth's Chris in LA, I have never heard of anyone not being pleased at any location. If you ever get to Madison Wi, there is a restaurant called Samba that I hear is incredible for all the meat you can eat. When Masato (sp) from Kamui was in town from Japan he took a friend of mine there and he loved it. http://sambabraziliangrill.com/

No need to go to WI.

If the OP is interested in a Brazilian steakhouse, there is a Fogo de chao in Chicago. Every different cut of beef available, along with pork and lamb. It's also all you can eat. Usually around $60 per person. I've never had a bad meal at any Fogo I've eaten at.

The OP should really google Lawrys. Simply unrivaled. I live in NYC and eat regularly at Peter Lugers, smith and wollensky and others. Lowrys gives them the 7.
