Looks like you are getting your pool movie....

DeNiro is past his prime in acting, however, a younger version of Chaz Palminteri or Andy Garcia would be a good fit.

I think even John Tuturro, ala Color of Money, could pull it off. He is a very talented actor and anyone that’s seen him in HBO’s mini-series, The Night Of, can appreciate just how good of an actor he is. I don’t think picking a big name past their prime acting days is the way to go. DeNiro’s performance will always be compared with his greatness in Scorsese films like Mean Streets, The Deerslayer, Taxi Driver, Cape Fear, Good Fellas, Casino or Coppola’s Godfather Ii and Michael Mann’s Heat. The undeniable fact is DeNiro is very talented actor and appeared in terrific movies. You can’t disguise his acting greatness.

p.s. Someone already pointed out the movie is The Deer Hunter, not the novel by James Fenimore Cooper.

Don't watch if Deniro is in it. He's going to be in a wheel chair in the movie and don't expect him to have any scenes where he's dancing around the table and running out. Those days are long gone. His last couple of movies have been resorted to playing someone's grandpa or some old guy. You are given roles that is more representative of your age.

Also, he may ruin the movie due to all the roles given to him as a mobster. We will look at him as a mobster and not a pool guy.

Hustling hasn't been lost. It just takes a longer time now and it has evolved to sandbagging or two players hustling their backers.

Those are all the same roles.

I’m sorry if I missed it in the article but did they say who the director is?

This is very important.
Ummm. Here is the title of the article in Variety:

Jenna Ortega and Robert De Niro to Play Pool Hustlers in David O. Russell’s ‘Shutout’ for RK Films, Black Bear

Those are all the same roles.
You still have to act and deliver a convincing portrayal of the character. Additionally, cinema critics, his acting peers,
and America’s viewing public heralds his performances as riveting, realistic, powerful and captivating. Now you can
argue that he’s one dimensional but he used the same role in Analyze This & Meet The Parents. Both were comedies
and he pulled it off with aplomb. He was funny and obviously, he can handle serious roles. The guy is a gifted actor.

Wait and see the movie before making up your minds, but such seems rampant in certain circles these days.

More importantly, who are the pool consultants? Inquiring minds . . .
