after coming back to the game after many many years of laying off, i knew enought to know, that for me, it is all about the stroke. you can have the best aiming system known to man but if you don't have "the stroke", it is all for naught. so after many hours of practice i found my old stroke. once you "feel it", you know you have it. that is not to say i have it every minute of the day but now that i have felt it i get it back more easily. now that i have it i joined APA to play more often. after many years of playing this is the first time i joined a league of any kind. i had heard the stories, know what i mean? not please with the "slop in" rule, but that is that. anyway, went in as a "5" and after 2 weeks went to a "6" and that is when the problems started. captain says, "do more innings", play more safties, don't "crush" the opponent". we need you as a "5" not as a "6".......so last night i went to another APA 8 ball league that had just formed 2 weeks ago hoping someone needed another player.3 different teams needed a player! YEA!!!! but then i was told by all 3 teams, "we don't want a "6", we need a "3" or "4".......so do i now play terrible pool in order to play the game i love or what? i am working hard to become a "7" in the next couple of weeks. does that mean league play will be over for me otherwise have to not play my game? are there any alternatives other than "APA" that promote geting better and winning the game rather than delaying the ultimate outcome? i love the game but it seems i can't play to win the way it should be........am i wrong or what?

2 guys were playing league 8 ball both were 5's. and the league tournment was the next weekend. The winner of the match moved to a 6. So they both took turn pocketing the 8 out of turn. THEN, one of them remembered the rule if you break your stick down you lose. So guess what happened! These type of players do nothing but waste other players time.

I am not a anti league guy but, I doesn't sound like the league is going to work for you. I don't blame you one bit, if your goal is to elevate your game then playing bad on purpose isn't going to do you any good.

I play in a league but we are not APA, we have our own rules. I dont like them all but I dont have to dog games either. I know of allot of people who play in the APA and love it, more power to them, but it doesn't sound like a good fit for you.

Good luck to ya.

are there any alternatives other than "APA" that promote geting better and winning the game rather than delaying the ultimate outcome....

There probably are other leagues in your area, give em a try, its nice to have choices. Your reasoning to move on is correct. There are also a fair amount of in house leagues that are not sanctioned, call around, might find one close to you, probably best to ask the night shift.

It is supposed to be fun and it already sounds like you are not going to have much fun screwing around with all that stupid stuff. You want to play pool, screw the leagues.

thanks for the advice.......there is a guy trying to form some "napa" leagues here for the last couple of weeks but i think thus far he has had no luck. i heard there was a "master's league" close by and i think i will try that even though there it is "play at your own skill". i don't have any chance of winning anytime soon because there are some guys who would play at an 8 or better level in a league.....but i don't have to "dog it" as you say and i will certainly learn something from them kicking my ass! we get better by playing those that are better....

Forget it

Forget the APA, It's nothing but a bunch of sand baggers trying to win a free trip to Vegas. I know it's just my opinion but I never believed in the APA.
Been asked many many times over the years to get on a team and I would not. I truely think it's for the beginner player. It's does nothing for your game but give you more playing time. I think it's more for the player that is more interested in having a beer and banging balls around and not the serious player. Look around I'm sure you can find an in house league that is not the APA.

It doesn't sound like the APA is a good fit for you, it isn't for me either. Maybe see if TAP is there or ask around about local leagues or even in-house leagues.

Good for you...'sand-bagging' is soooo mickey mouse.

I just started APA as well and will be playing my best. If I get raised to a seven it will mean I will have to be fullly focused in order to continue to win.
I'm playing for myself and careless about winning a trip.

It doesn't seem like that APA league is a good fit for you, certainly... It's a shame they are acting like that. A 7 is often welcome in our world, most teams here look to have one. Obviously more than one becomes a mathematical challenge, but having one "better" player is important. At least here it is.

I really don't understand people telling players to lose. It escapes me.

Good luck finding a league that works for you. That one certainly doesn't.

Atlanta must have some other leagues who are looking for a good player who enjoys playing their best. Look around.

looks like you need to find another league:cool:

I played APA for about 3 years and I just recently became a 6. We are playing city wide in two weeks but after that I think I will either quit APA or find another team that needs a 6/7.

Don't listen to that BS and just try to play your best and crush your opponent whenever you can. It feels good, doesn't it:D

I'm just a banger. But it seems to me any league that encourages you to do other than the best you can is just plain wrong.
