hill- hill match and my opponent just made his last ball and started walking around the table to pocket the 8 hanging in the corner, i slammed my stick on the table at the 8 ball before he had a chance to shoot at it. i have never done that before in my life, i think the shit eating grin on his face after he pocketed his last ball to get on the 8 is what really set me off.

now before all you start to bash me and telling me what you would have done if i had been playing you let me explain what led up to this incident.

this guy is a 5 the same as me. we are pretty even at playing pool. we both are about the same in pocketing balls, cue ball control, pattern play, even in all aspects except one " SLOP ".

HE IS THE LUCKIEST MF'ER I EVER SEEN WHEN IT COMES TO RESORTING TO SLOP SHOTS !! now i aint saying i have never made a slop shot in my life , heck we all have at one time or another but this guy is something else when it comes to slop.

please dont turn this into another apa bashing thread. i have stated on here many times that i really dont see much slop in my league from s/l 5's and up .....except for this guy and one other 5 in my league who is about as bad as him.

as i stated earlier he is a damn good shooter but he resorts to slop when he gets into trouble. he is capable of running out anytime with an open table without resorting to slop.

he made several slop shots tonight but 2 of them really got to me. then the shit eating grin after he made the last slop shot to get on the 8 when it was hill-hill really set me off. i did manage to shake his hand after i retrieved my cue but i did tell him he was too good a player to resort to slop while shaking it , and i managed to smile while saying it.:)

tonight was very uncharastic of me , like i said earlier i have never acted like that in my life over a game of pool, not even when gambling in bars in my younger years.

It happens. I lost my cool a month ago or so which ended with my breaking my pechauer:sorry: you live you learn you move on. I should also point out I was playing 14.1...alone...as long as you learn from your mistakes it'll be all good

As long as you didn't break your nose first when you walked into that wall....

Say 3 hail marys and 2 our fathers...

And drink two beers..... :p

That's not like you. Let it go, learn from it, don't give him the satisfaction of driving you out of the league.

You'll kick his ass, next time.
I lost to a 4 that I have no business losing to tonight. $hit happens. We will get better, both of us.

Here's a good one to lighten the mood.

I lost to a 2 in a tournament and she never made a ball. First game I break and run leaving a super thin cut on the 9. I made it, but scratched and didn't make her shoot. Second game she broke dry, I ran out to the 9 and jarred it in the pocket. Again I didn't make her shoot. Score 2-0, Chris makes 16 balls, girl gets 2 balls conceded.

It happens ;)

He's an SL5...which means he is *sometimes* capable of running out with a wide open table...and three hanging balls.

Seriously, do you ever get tired of complaining about league?

There is one thing I know to be true: Anybody who regularly resorts to slop regularly loses. They will win some, maybe many, at times, but overall they are losing...unless they are better than you and you only remember their slop without remembering your mistakes.

dld

seriously? well lets see now ? ....i dont recall anywhere in my post where i complained about any league. maybe you are refering to me complaining about what happened in league ? yea i guess i am guilty of that.

pardon me if you dont like me posting about my league experiences .

would you rather me start another thread about whats the best chalk ?, best tip ?, best cue, ?, what about another aiming thread ?

we already got a bunch of those. i happen to like hearing about other peoples experience playing pool or just matching up in pool rooms or tournaments or whatever.

yea i am well aware of any mistakes i make and i do try to better my self where i dont make them again. matter of fact i made a few mistakes tonight in not locking the cue ball up tight enough where my opponent could not slop some shots in.

pardon my sarcasm tonight, again its very uncharastic of me, guess i am still a lil peeved about tonight.

btw i love your truck.

a couple of you guys are real comedians. lmao !

the rest of you, thanks for your words of encouragement .

It's a league. Don't take it too seriously.

Now if y'all were playing a few hundred for the set. Well then we are talking something totally different.

man that is some bad luck.

our 2 won 8 ball the same way last week. she was playing a 6 and he scratched on the 8 twice.

thanks man.

thanks dub.

yea we all have our days. just frustrated when i play one of my best games for naught.

what can you do when you face a guy that you play a good safe and he hits the cue ball 2 rails about 90 miles an hour , hits his ball that is behind three of mine and it goes back and forth across the table 3 times before falling in a corner pocket and he is straight in on a hanging 8 ?

another shot that got me , he is trying a long bank on his last ball and again hits the cue ball 90 miles an hour , his ball goes up and down the table 2 times then hits my last ball and his falls in the side pocket and again is perfect on the 8. this time his grin really got under my skin and i lost it.

now that i am calmed down a little i guess i can look on the bright side knowing i had him on the ropes and he was resorting to desperation shots.

A local SS was watching and after I jarred the last 9 I turned to him and just smiled (I'm sure my face was cracking a little). He just looked at me and said "It's brutal sometimes isn't it?"

yea, you are right. probably would not have bothered me so much if i was not in a bad mood because 3 players did not show tonight.

most of my gambling in my younger days were pretty cheap. 20.00 a game or so. never played for much more than that except one time.

been beating a guy pretty much all night for 20.00 a game then his brother got involved running his mouth about they could not play good unless it was serious money. we settled on one game for 350.00 , with about half of what i put up was what i won off him. made sure some one had my back but they did not cause a scene when i won and they left quietly.

ordinarily i never played for anything like that because i really did not think i was that good but like i said most of what i put up was what i had already won so i was not out much if i lost.

One way to handle the "pressure" of people sh!ting in balls on you is to keep playing them. Seriously, the more you have something happen (whether its opponent getting lucky, you getting unlucky, etc.), the more your mind will be prepared for it, and you will reach a point where you will become hardened, and unshakable..... if your mind adapts. I say embrace the lucky shots. Even study them, and think about the exact path they took to get into the pocket.

Btw, off topic, but how can you slop a ball in 8 ball? I thought at first something like a double bank into the called pocket, but your description indicates the ball went in a non-intended pocket. I assume by your description of the shots that your league does not play called pocket? I just never heard of 8 ball being played without calling it, even in bar banger rules.
