lost their cues in transit

I would like to know what is going on with the air lines. It seem to be a lot of cues lost in transit now days. I think we should be able to carry our cues on the plane when we travel. These people just done know how much these things are worth and the hassel we have to go through when things like this happen. I have been to meny tournaments that this has happen. What can we do to stop this??

APA ,BCA, etc. should be voicing our concerns.
not allowed cause seen as weapon.
the funny thing is you can board with any thing that resembles a cane.
 
Bunch o Crap! I think you can take a Tennis Racket on board too. I'm sorry but anything can be used as a weapon. They probably shouldn't allow sharpened pencils and car keys :D
 
When you combine APA, BCA, VNEA, and other leagues. What actually is spent on airfare by the players each year. That amount should be the spokesperson to Homeland Security. Better yet a Billiard Tournament with the Bet been a change to the law!
 
One of my cuemaker friends lost 12 Custom Ccues on Northwest Airlines. They were each valued at $2000+. The airlines was going to offer him so much a pound.

Send your cues ahead of time to the hotel. Be sure to insure the cue for 2 times it's value. Your cue will be there when you are ready to pick it up. If not, you can go shopping with some cash.
 
First time I had to travel with a cue, I put it in a duffel bag. I bought a duffel bag with two pockets at the ends, and cut through the inside so that the main storage area extended into one of the pockets. I put my 2x3 Instroke case in there, no problem. Also, it was a hard case, so I wouldn't put a cue with a soft case in a duffel bag.

This would be nice. Being that i am goood friends with Tom Dr. Cue Rossman and he is one of the guys that is at all of these tournaments i will ask if he could have a talk with them and see if they could get a staff togather to take care of this. When i travel i have a suitcase big eneough that i put my sticks in. It is a hassel but to me its well worth it. I have a very nice Schon and its suppose to be only 2 or 3 made and i would hate to loose it. To me money is not eneough to replace it. Thanks to all for the imput.
 
The last time I flew with my cues was for 2004 APA nationals in Vegas and I put my 2 x 4 hard leather Swift case in a Porper travel bag and, fortunately, no problems. This year I'm taking one of those big wheeled duffel bags with a bottom compartment. I'll put the case inside the Porper travel bag and put that inside the bottom compartment with shoes etc. around it.
 
I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for the airlines to change their policies on pool cues. I honestly don't see it ever happening.

I went out and bought a $40 Dufferin just in case I decide not to take my good cues. That way I won't be out too much money if something happens... :D LOL
 
Carrying your cues...

When I went to the VNEA Nats in Vegas, I put my 4x8 case in one of those bags used for portable folding chairs. It has a drawstring that I drew tight- then tied into a knot. It looks very innocuous (that means it looks like it isn't worth opening)... and most people wouldn't bother spending the time trying to untie the drawstring. The bag protects the case pretty well from scuffs and bumps, and no one could tell there's a cue-case inside.

Airline misplaced my cue case on way to Shanghai last year. Turned up 2 days later (one day after tourney started) and was delivered by airline staff to the hotel with profuse apologies. They upgraded my ticket class on the return flight by way of a further 'sorry'. Can't really ask for much more than that when things go wrong, they don't lose things intentionally.

You guys must have fairly big suitcases if you can get a cue case in. Can't even get my hard case in diagonally to my biggest piece of luggage. Does that make me a luggage cheapskate?:(

I don't put a lock on the cue case as they'd just bust it anyway if any security or thief really wanted to look inside during the transit. However, after they've inspected and x-rayed the case at check-in I ask them to allow me to tape it closed with a couple of turns of strong masking tape and have never been refused permission. This at least prevents any chance of the case accidentally springing open during any rough handling. Sometimes the tape adhesive can be a pain to wash off but overall I think it's worth the effort to use the tape:)

In most countries you can get a fairly cheap annual insurance for sports equipment including transit insurance and I have the golf clubs and cues on one policy.

We can't do anything. It's homeland security that makes the call and not the airlines.

traveling with high end cues is no different than traveling with expensive guns, fishing rods, skis, golf clubs, tools and anything else you can't take in the cabin with you. You have to disguise them and hope for the best or insure them and not worry about it.

I disguise mine in duffel bags.

What do you all think of having good three piece cues that fit in all standard luggage? Market for them or not? Sheldon LeBow has made a few and by all accounts they hit pretty sporty.

I'd like to develop some but I don't see a market yet. Do you?
 
I hate flying & this always sounds like another good reason to avoid it to me!

I sometimes wonder if the airlines are just using security as an excuse for their increasingly poor service. If something goes wrong or goes missing, blame the security restrictions!

Doug, a lot of folks who travel frequently via airplanes advise to ship the cue ahead of time to your destination.

What I did when Keith flew to Reno last year was I located a soft case I had here at the house, and I placed the soft cue case in his suitcase diagonally. It fit perfectly. I couldn't have done it with a hard cue case, though. Just a suggestion! :p

It's the govt that forces these stupid and dangerous rules onto us, not the airlines. Yet, the airlines encouraged the complete takeover, by the govt, of their customers' security. Saves a buck or two, they think.

Just choose another airline...whoops!...choice is gone. :(

Yep, it's the government making the calls. Maybe the next administration will have more sense, but I'm not holding my breath. I too have a large suitcase that my wife's Bentley case fits in diagonally, works just fine and haven't had any problems.... so far. :p
 
Lost Cues

I was at the 14.1 tourny in New Jersey outside smoking when I seen Fabio Petroni(sp) making deals w/ the cab driver for some reason. I asked him what had happen, he replied that his cloths and pool cases were not at the belt. He had to take a cab all the way back to J.F.K. airport to try and claim his bags. He had that Italiano temper going, which I dont blame him for. That is a shame to worry about your cues reaching the correct destination. Then have to compete in a world championship. Try telling JETER that his glove didnot make it to Yankee Stadium. lol lol :)
