Low deflection ferrule material for Carbon shafts.

I just found this thread and see that nothing has changed on AZB.
I first heard about Hydex 202 when Henry Fletcher asked about including it & ABS in my chart. I declined to include ABS because I tried it 30 yrs ago and had tip adhesion problems. Then, Joey sent me a sample of Hydex which prompted me to try to learn more about it. Based on what I found, Hydex is only available in natural and black colors. For reference, it's a bit lighter in color than Juma. It does machine nicely and I will be making a dozen ferrules today to try out on my next batch of shafts. I bought more than I'll ever use so if anyone is interested, I'll sell a few feet or inches of it.

Uh oh

As promised, here are some pictures of my current version cue. It is a compound taper with relatively fast taper from joint to about 1.25 inch into handle. Then slow taper to end of butt which provides more uniform grip diameter. Cues are built on full length, stepped maple cores. Radial glue reliefs every 1/2-3/4 inch and three longitudinal glue reliefs. Glued with gorilla glue (expanding poly glue). Tom Migliore 1-3/8 modified pins. The ends of these cues measure approximately .870 and 1.265, at present. Plan to finish at about .850/1.25 inch. Still need weight bolts and adjusting weights as appropriate. These all have a simple 15 stitch ring design. There is no sealer or finish on these cues so no popping of figure. They're all merry widows; some might get some inlays. My earlier cues (28 in number, I believe) had single taper. In those I experimented with different ring designs and different forearm, handle, butt sleeve length proportions. Just learned I can only post 10 files at a time, so I'll do this incrementally

Two more (crude) pictures. One shows roughly120 shafts near final in three configurations - two low deflection Predator-like and pro taper. A few more cored fronts I hope to get to. All the shafts and cores were processed from rectangular lumber; no dowels were used. Collars on shafts will be replaced with new collars and ringwork matching 2nd gen cues above.

Bob,
I sent you a DM.
Thanks

Got one installed for my Taiwan dealer's test shaft.
Ferrule only weighs 2.9 grams at still oversized 14mm .

Never got it.
BTW, several people have contacted me regarding my offer to sell some of the Hydex and I've already sold more than I expected to. If more of you are interested, let me know ASAP and if enough people contact me by the end of the month, I'll order more.

Uh oh, hydex craze has begun.
I hope we don't get labeled as fools in using it as threaded ferrule.
Well joey, I guess you're intent on goading me into replying to another one of your empty posts. Seems unwise after your and clinger's recent rantings. I said I'd back off till you attacked again, so . . .

Actually I've been looking forward to playing around with the Predator low deflection research posted by SRVIKINGHIT. I might as well learn by evaluating your high deflection ferrules. I've got some. I'll do that soon. and post my conclusions.

I see you recently panicked in response to my calling attention to your high deflection ferrules. Apparently you're now stating to make some lighter ferrules (post #191). You're hip joey, just several years late. It does seem silly to shoot out into right field to hit a ball in left field, correct?

I'll end by saying it seems you're trying to take some credit for a "hydex craze". Why? Long ago AZB'r bruppert started selling isoplast (hydex). Many of us bought it. You were just clueless and in love with yourself because you'd learned to live thread your high deflection ferrules. Also, the only reason you sent a hydex sample to DZ is because I'd already contacted him and goaded you. I'd say bruppert deserves some credit, not you. You're just trying to distract from the high deflection ferrule fiasco you're caught up in.

You're still clueless . Keep slinging mud, maybe one will stick .
Fiasco ? Oh wow. Fiasco. WTF ? Is DZ stuck in the fiasco too ?
Wait, all those who use Juma ferrules, are they stuck in the fiasco too ? Those are even heavier .
Keep slapping your ABS ferrules on your cues .
A monkey can do that .
You're actually trying to convince everyone to slap on thin wall ferrules.
You weren't attacked. Duh!
PS, I've been threading ferrules for 20 years plus. Duh!
I made the first batch of Ivor-X ferrules more than 20 years ago after my late mentor injured his hand.
And you're decades late with your future low end mass experiment.
Smh
