Low deflection shafts for custome made cues!

Hello everybody,

I have a custome made cue and will like to get a low deflection shaft for it, but I have no idea how to go about it. Do I buy the shaft and take it to the my cue maker so he can customize it? Or is there another way of doing this? Can somebody please help!

The answer to the question is, they make a shaft(predator) for your particular pin size and plain next to the joint so the custom cue maker can then match up your ring or wood or whatever you have in mind.
 
Or you have him order a blank which gives him even more flexibility to exactly match your cue. He can match the joint diameter and drill it with his standard tool.

You can check out the AZB Marketplace and see if anything suits you or you can contact Seybert's directly and we'll get you hooked-up.
We do custom mate & match every day. Just about anything except CNC or ivory. The time it would take to write a program for a 1-of shaft would make it cost prohibitive & I don't use ivory. Sey will treat you right whether it's off the rack or custom.

If you want matching ringwork, best way is to do as you suggest - buy a "partial" shaft, such as a Predator, from a supplier - and it will be sent to you with no shaft insert - then have your cue maker fit it to your cue. The partial should also come with a separate identifying decal, which can use if you wish (I recommend that you do).

If you don't care about matching ringwork, then I still think it's best to get a partial (or have it fitted by the shaft manufacturer or dealer repair shop) and have it properly fitted to your cue. The advantages of custom fitting are:

- It will fit snugly

- It will have the correct joint diameter

- It will be aligned properly with the butt

- you can choose the length you want

i will add this the $$ u save to buy a partial u will spend to match it up. so do it right

so ur gonna spend 220$ ish no matter whaat

I personally think you should give the custom shaft a try brfore making judgement on getting another shaft.

If you want a stock LD shaft, yOu can go to www.obcues.com and order one for your particular cue.

If you want custom collars, you will have to call your cuemaker and order a blank LD shaft.

You might also consider going to AZB MArketplace and supporting the forum with your order. (It's on this screen at the top right hand corner) Well, it is sometimes. You can also go to www.azbilliards.com and see the LINK for AZB Marketplace.

get a LD blank from your prefered LD shaft company. Than have it shipped to the cuemaker that made your cue, collar match it and finished. Afterwards, it might also need to be rebalanced as well since the OEM shaft might weight differently than the new LD shaft.

Before I got my custom from AZ member JBCustomCues, I had him match a OB-2 to the cue. Thus, I got a great cue with the shaft I wanted, and it was perfectly matched to the cue. I love how it turned out.

The first thing to do is contact your cuemaker about it. Most CM's are happy to take care of this for you. Some, don't like anyone using different shafts, so they won't help you. This is the best way as he will purchase the blank and just deliver the cue to you with the extra LD shaft as he finishes the cue.

If your cue maker won't work with you on it, then I recommend not mentioning it to him again. At this point, wait until you get the cue and do as KJ recommended and call Seyberts. Or, you could also call Ratcues at Meullers. Both do excellent work and will take good care of you.

Oh, and by the way, I recommend the OB-2!

Boy!!!Thank you all very much for your input on this question. I must say I'm very much excited as a new member to see how everybody is willing to help. Having said that.. I have another question. I think this one may have been answered already, but just in case...Is it possible to change the taper of the LD shaft without affecting the playability? For example I like to play with 12.75 and 17 to 18 inches long taper.

Well, you can most certainly change the taper of any cue shaft. But, you can't change it and not change the way it plays. Any changes to the taper will affect the play. It may change more to your liking, or just the opposite. This is all very subjective.

Since it seems like you like a long taper, I would recommend to you an OB-1. I am not just saying this because I make them, but also because it is probably the best fit for what you are looking for. The taper on the OB-1 grows very slightly for the first 10", and just a little more for the next 6". I think it will fit what you are looking for very well.
