I recommend Hightower Deluxe its a great lathe and you have the best customer service with Chris. IMO

Lathe

Get a Cuesmith Deluxe......But first call Chris and talk to him about a package deal, you'll be happier........Good Luck and welcome to the "MAD HOUSE"..........Ray

Though I recommend any of the above lathes highly no one asked you the Magic question. Where you want to go and how do you want to get there?

Though the lathes above are very practicle if you don't have space I recommend a machinist lathe, less vibration and better chance of dead on accuracy.

I have owned many of the above and a full machinist lathe at the same time.

If you are planning Tip Ferrule repair at Tournaments then its a no brainer, you pick from the top. If your goal is full Cue making full time and you have the room look into a full machinest monster weight 220V lathe.

Upsides and downsides to both, you need to figure whats best for your goals.

I would have to also recommend the cuesmith deluxe. Dropped about $6000 initial start up, and have made 5 full cues, 7 shafts, numerous cleanings, tip and ferrule jobs so far without a single problem with the machine. I absolutely love it! Mr. Hightower is by far one of THE best guys around!

Fyi

Recommend a Hightower lathe I have a Deluxe, repair and a modified repair lathe. They are very easy to work with and Chris is a great guy. Will get you want you need and get you building cues or repairs.

Do yourself a favor and get a cuesmith. A friend of mine just got a new cuesmith midsize, and its a great lathe. It puts my customcuelathe to complete shame. Every single aspect of Chris' lathe is better. You wont regret the cuesmith.

&sniper wich customcuelathe do u got

Thx

Snipershot has a basic repair lathe with an H-channel upgrade, which is nothing like the Cue Building Lathe ll model. He is too stupid to appreciate what he got and too dumb to know how to use it properly. I tried everything with this low life, swapped his motor and made him the first bindless carriage ever. Things were going great, he was very happy with the improvements, but once I refused to refund his shipping cost. He went bizurk and started all those lies, and he hasn't stopped since it happened. He went as far as intensiolly rusting up his chuck and blam it on me, when all I did was give him a brand new motor at the time, never toughed that chuck.
It wasn't untill last week when he showed his true colors, a rarecist and prejudice person on the Trent (my apology thread).
The truth is, I wish I could get my H-channel back, cause he doesn't deserve
to have it. In fact if snipershot is willing to ship my bed and carriage back to me I would buy him a brand new Hightower mid size lathe bed and carriage. ( I would only honor this deal if the bed and carriage are received in good working condition, knowing snipershot, he might send the Bed in pieces and expect me to still honor this deal)
I am also willing to put my H-channel bed with corse gear rack and bindless carriage head to head against the best tweaked tuned and customized Hightower, Porper, unique, or any other. Cue lathe manufacturer out there.
I don't mean to high jack the thread, I am just sick and tired of the idiot snipershot running his mouth bashing
my product on any cue lathe inquiry that gets posted here.

Bassel

Gets old listening to you go on and on about this and that.

So sorry to offend you by giving my opinion. I didnt realize i wasnt allowed to state how much better Chris Hightower is than Bassel. If someone asks for an opinion or comparison between lathes, i guess i shouldnt say Hightowers lathes are better? Even though thats the honest truth? And di you read Bassels post? I never attacked him, but he wrote a novel calling me all kinds of names and acting like a little kid because he lied and then got caught. So, in the future, even though it pisses you off, i will still give my opinion. Let me ask you this, if Eddie Wheat started posting new super cues for sale, do you think all the folks who had bad dealings with him would just sit there and be quiet?

Joe

Ive never had a bassel lathe but I did have a deluxe cuesmith.

One thing is forsure after some research on here there's not a single bad thread about Mr Hightower but I've seen quite a few on these other knock off lathes.

Not only that but bassel is that an appropriate way to talk to another forum member? I think there's rules against insulting other members in that fashion.

Just my opion but id say go with a large metal lathe if you have room.

Amen brother! I seen Joe's customcuelathe in action, well non action I mean. I think his customcuelathe would be more suited for rotating whole chicken over a open grill.

Joe,

Take the offer given by Customcuelathe and get over it. I'm also getting tired my self reading this over and over again. I have no take on any of the manufacturers but I know that there is always two sides of any story.

I have a customer which I honestly did ALL what I could to make him happy. Free Kamui tips, repairs, custom shaft produced and you name. At the end I asked to buy it all back - a $3400 package deal because what ever I did - it was not good enough.

I have not worked with any of the mentioned machines but there is Taig products in them both, so claiming that one is so superior to the other sounds strange to me. Get your money back and buy the product you feel gives you the best deal and get over it.

It should be mentioned that the customer I talked about is today a good friend of mine, we meet to play pool and hang arround with no issues. Why? Because when the day is over I park my new learned experience in the memory bank under "knowledge" and go forward with my life. Life is to short to go grinding on frustreation - it put gray hair in my head, and I don't like them (even if my wife claims is ok) :)

Anyway, to the OP-good luck on your journey, it's exiting when you get it all started but be prepared to spend a lot of your hard earned cash
I have been hanging in this section for years and you would find tremendous knowledge from a lot of helpfull people.

Happy cuebuilding.

I'm not offended, just tired of listening to it all. Both of you have a side, both of you could have acted differently. Both could learn.

But every thread that starts and this crap comes up gets OLD. That's all.

I never said anything bad about bassel. If you put my lathe next to a hightower, you would have the same opinion. Hes the one flying off the handle. Ill let it go though. Sorry for the distraction to the op.
