Lucasi authenticity

I saw an image online recently that showed a Lucasi that was broken open to show that it wasn't ebony, and the inlays weren't real. Some people say that the low-end Lucasis are fake inlays, but the higher-end ($200+) Lucasis contain all the materials that they claim.

Does anybody know, if I were to get this cue, would the inlays be real? I already know it wouldn't be ebony, since the ad says it's ebony stained. But what about the points?

Note: I am NOT asking to be told to buy another brand. I'm just curious about the authenticity of Lucasi cues.

Once, I too was about to buy a Lucasi but someone told me that they are like 'drag' Ferraris...I heard that they really don't put in the real thing, but I don't know if this is the case for their more expensive cues. I also wouldn't consider 200+ as 'higher-end'. The same person also said that they don't put in the real stuff for inlays. I have heard though, that some like the hit.

It's my opinion and don't bash me for this but I think with ~that design of a Lucasi, the very possibly fake materials they are said to use, the likelihood of a low resale value, and for the exorbitant price they are charging you, your money is wayyyy better spent elsewhere.

200+ is higher-end for Lucasi... they only have a few cues over $300. But I know that there are plenty of more expensive cues out there.

I like the design of Lucasi cues, whether or not the materials are real... though I think my tastes are a bit different from other people's, since I really don't like the looks of some of the other popular cues (McDermott, for example... ughh...) And I plan on putting a Z shaft on it, so hit isn't really a factor.

Anybody out there willing to crack open their Lucasi for the sake of research? :p

Yea.....if you're really bent on that design that by all means go for it. There are so many brands out there other than Mcdermott, and if you would just spend what you're already spending with the Z, you'd be breaching the bottom of the custom market, which IMO, is a better deal. Also, consider the Pred sneaky pete, it's value for money.

However, if you're looking for a Z, I have a used Z which I am planning to sell, used for only a year and in 99% condition. The shaft however was custom made for a Pechauer so you'd have to do some work on it. I'm down for $180.
 
Thanks, but somebody's already buying me the shaft for Xmas, customized to match the Lucasi railroad collar. :)

She wouldn't even know where to begin to get your Z modified for a Lucasi... much easier for her to buy the shaft from Seybert's... and not much more expensive when you consider the cost of joint and collar replacement. ;) I'm sure you can find somebody with a Pechauer who'd be interested though. :)

I had a Lucasi about 4 years ago. The cue claimed to have ebony butt with some wood inlays. An accidental damage on the butt revealed it was decal with maple underneath. There was no inlay.

My Lucasi is'nt junk by any means....I bet Buddy's is pretty junk free as well.

i have a $2500 Custom that hits like junk.....My $200 Lucasi hits a ton.....

You can't just lump them all into the "junk" catagory....I bet with every cue out there, If blindfolded, theres someone who will love the hit, and another person will hate the hit.....Gerry
 
A Lucasi may play quite well, I honestly don't know.

I personally however don't like them because they are Chinese made...and especially when one considers that a Viking and McDermott can both be bought for the same money...play extremely well, and are USA made products.

I know everyone won't agree with me, but I have issue with supporting slave labor and my issue is compounded when there isn't even a savings involved.

But watch out, about a year ago there was a thread about cues made in asia that had a lot of asians and asian/americans accusing everbody of being racist.:rolleyes: It really got stupid.

I don't have an issue with products from South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, and other democratic nations.

My issue with mainland China is strictly about how they run things.

Dear LWW, while you are protected by free speech and that this IS America, please have some consideration for the people from China, or have roots tied to China, who might be perusing this forum. What you say and what they glean off from the people in this forum has a large effect on their impressions and notions about the West.

The last one was entitled "Made in China" and it ended up with sterotypical comments about the south and the white man.....it started with a question about Lucasi cues! Geez:rolleyes:

If someone likes their made in mainland China piece of wood....use it! Just don't start with the crap about "how well off the chinese workers are" crap and how we should support them by buying their less than US minimum wage wage labor products.

EDIT to stay on topic- My McD doesn't have any inlays or points....they never claimed it did either.

Dear Tbeaux, NOTHING is starting. I have no reason to argue against or defend either country. I was just stating my opinion.
 
Hey guys, why don't you take the nationalist mudslinging to a different thread? Preferably one in the NPR section. This thread is about Lucasi cues and their authenticity. It is NOT about whether or not a person should purchase a Lucasi cue because of where it comes from... :rolleyes:
