I am wondering if a Lucasi is just a souped up Players cue or would it be wise to spend my money else where...I am fairly new to the sport and play with a Players now (which i really like) but have been told by more than one player that the Player's is going to limit my ability? any thoughts?

Ability is ability no matter what you use but a good cue can't hurt.
And yes,Lucasi is a souped up Players cue made by the same people
in the same factory.
There are some low end Players that hit okay but if you want the Players
best hitters,I would look for the ones with the white phenolic joint
but piloted not flat-faced.Those hit really well for a small price-tag.
Goodluck.

No cue will "limit" your ability.

People today will push low deflection shafts and the highest priced layered cue tips, but the simple truth is before any of that ever existed there were
players who could run balls all day and make seemingly impossible shots.

Having something expensive that stands out and makes you feel confident
will make you feel better about your game but the price of a cue shouldn't matter all that much. If you possess the skills to be a top notch player then yea it may make a difference but even then you should still run racks with even a bar cue.

So I guess to put it simply, if you really want a new cue then do a little research and see if you can borrow someone elses and test hit it a few times to see what YOU like.

nonsense

saying that a lower end cue will limit your ability is like saying that a cheap $5 soccer ball from wal-mart will limit the ability of Pele to score a goal. It is utter nonsense. I would still back Efren Reyes with a broomstick over most anybody else using a "Monster Player" type cue. Your natural talents, hand-eye coordination, and LOTS AND LOTS of hard work and practice are the main things that are going to limit your ability.

they're decent cues. they'll suit you just fine if you're just starting out. don't get all caught up in what cue you play with. few years down the road you can up grade if you feel like it

Yeah Lucasi's are good. Nobody's saying the best on the market. But most of them either have uni-loc or radial joints on them. So aftermarket low deflection shafts can be found. The Zero Flexpoint shaft that's in most of the newer Lucasi's is like a distant cousin of Predator's shafts. It lower deflection a bit, not equally much though.
Playability is great.
Lucasi is one of those lower priced cues that you from time to time you see players even use at a higher level.
Thorsten Hohman is playing with them and it doesn't seem to hold him back.

thank you

Thank you for some really great input....i was expecting the generic answers you get on posts like this but i got some honest feedback...Thank you

I had a Pechauer and a custom cue and went back to my Lucasi as my every day player.
It just felt better to me.
