Luck as a skillset.

I thought about 2 way shots and leaving the CB bad should something miss, that It usually just works that way. Over time it becomes almost subconscious. I get "rolls" more than anybody I know but I spent a few years heavily focused on 2 way shots.

EDIT: It also amazes me that many people do not see caroms/billiards and the like. They think it's luck and I let them continue to believe it. There's tons of things you can do with 2 way shots... put the CB in a particular place and take a 15% 3 rail bank or something, 15% of the time it works, the other times the CB is safe anyway.

It's hard to explain but sometimes you just have a good feeling about a particular shot and it works. Protect the CB and roll the dice. 😄
I will take the obvious ones. Like banks that leave hooks regardless. I shun those "miss on the pro side" shots. You gotta hit those deliberately bad for them to go lol. Those are simple safeties.

Here's the afraid stuff I was looking for.

That's what got me started down this road less travelled. 🤦🏻‍♂️
It does become 2nd nature over time, if you're paying attention that is. A part of your game you no longer think about, it just happens.
Overthinking it will just create a mistake that wasn't there to begin with.
Go with the flow.😉

Tell you where that goes. Other than it's a way to play, you can also steal a bunch...
until you can't.

I am not superstitious. However I am a little stitious.

Look at knowledge from a few hundred or few thousand years ago. Then realize that our civilization will seem just as primitive in the same amount of time.

My brother died in his early twenties. He never saw a microwave or a personal computer. The interstate system was just under construction. Incidentally, how many people remember that one of the specifications of the interstate system first designed under Ike was that it had to have straight sections without obstructions every little ways to serve as emergency air strips if we were ever invaded? One of the main functions of the interstate system designed under a general soon after WWII is forgotten!

Hu

We have invented all the major inventions and discovered all of the major discoveries. Of course the people of two hundred and two thousand years ago thought the same thing.

There was a weapon invented so deadly it would end all wars. That weapon was the English longbow!

When I started playing with "the other hand" which is Lefty for me, I noticed that shooting Left handed was luckiest for me.
One night I was struggling and became so frustrated that on a problem shot I switched hands and blasted em left handed. It shit a ball and broke the spell. Shrug 🤷‍♂️ So now when facing an ugly situation that requires "hit em hard and wish em well" I will be doing it left handed.

Honestly it's amazing how often something will go in if you give it a chance. If I'm completely against the wall with no shot or safe available, I'd rather go down swinging. Carom the OB off a few balls and see if any of the low percentages go. It's probably not true but I feel that if I give 3 balls a 5% chance of going in, something seems to go in 30% of the time. That's a desperation shot, but if you also happen to park the CB behind something, it costs nothing to miss. Just re-arranging the furniture. :)

That's My mindset as well. 👍
A missed shot can leave a safety. A missed safety sells the farm.
Playing a lot of 9 ball ring games developed a habit of hitting with speed that doesn't leave the object ball near the pocket it was aimed at if it doesn't drop. A player that left hanging balls was given the ring game name, Sell Out Queen. NOT a good thing. 🤷‍♂️

In the weakish ring game I had a personal rule of Never make more than 3 balls in a row without a splash of the cash. The wilder the better and every shot as soon as I was ahead of the game. A break and run would immediately result in the unscrewing of the other 4 cues. Well I did outgrow the game and insured that I was not welcome in it ever again with a break and run that netted $12, They all unscrewed and I politely gave them the table back and retreated to the bar for a beer.
My method and practice got me the ring game name Kicks Like A Mule.

Put a little Feng Shui on it and you're good to go.😉

And uh oh yeah, "how about if I shoot Left handed" got me a brief respite. Well I am luckier Lefty. 🤷‍♂️ So that offer got only scoffing and giggling after only one time.

Loves me some ring games!!!😁
5 and 9 - money.
I'm rolling the cheese every chance I get as long as I'm not turning the table over or blowing shape.
Things I learned playing 3 cushion definitely helps me roll the cheese!! Money balls spot back up if down early and play continues. I'll make a ball, but the CB or one of the other balls is moving the cash if I can help it. Granted, you have to know who you're playing against.
I've had players quit bcuz they couldn't handle watching the 5 or 9 rolling around the table every time a certain player makes a shot.
It's frustrating.
They get tired of that shit real quick. Gets in their head cuz some days, they fall like rain!! Massacre on a barbox.😉

Some players up from Oklahoma tried that shit 2 nights ago. Had to queer their action b4 they cleaned out the place.
Friends of Garczar's - prolly.😂😉

Our game was 1 before the 5 and 2 before the nine to get the respot. Rick Hodge had the record for most money balls in a rack with something like 2 or 3 fives and 4 nines with a 5th nine barely missed. 🤷‍♂️

While training the knowledge into the strong hand you have probably trained some of the feel out. The weak hand is shy on knowledge since you use it much less but it may have greater feel than the strong hand if you turn it loose.

I was off one day, couldn't make a ball in a five gallon bucket. The money ball was almost straight in on a nine foot Diamond. It was also an almost perfect four rail bank to the same pocket. I called the four railer and split the pocket. I never doubted the money ball was headed home.

An outfielder has to make many complex calculations to run up a wall and catch a ball. The ball is on a constantly changing arc moving at a constantly slowing speed. I doubt that a supercomputer could calculate things at the same speed as an outfielder's mind. The conscious mind would still be putting together the equation when the ball is already in the player's mitt, courtesy of an uninterrupted coordination between the unconscious and the body.

Could be a mod hinting you are full of caca! More likely the overstrike button got selected, the S with a bar through it. Sometimes you have to click on the three dots to open the menu to see the overstrike button. Sneaky of the software guys!

ah hah I found it.

Says Ctrl + S in the editor. (first set of 3 vertical dots)

When I am shooting poorly I get bad rolls. I scratch a lot. It’s not bad luck. It’s me not visualizing the shot and anticipating that the CB will go there to scratch or get hooked, or not consciously avoiding running into other balls where it can carom and scratch or get hooked. Scratches and hiding the CB of these types are indeed avoidable if one plays the percentages by taking utmost care of the CB.

The only “bad luck” roll might be scratching on the break after parking the rock center of the table and having it get knocked in. Even worse playing 8 and snapping it but also scratching (under rule sets where that is a loss.)

Conversely, it seems that when I am shooting well the rolls come. Don’t know if that’s good luck or the subconscious planning the outcome when I might not even realize I saw and planned the good outcome.

I truly believe “luck” plays less of a role than we might be inclined to admit.

Say you're playin' 9b, its hill-hill for your case $$, you break, make a couple and whitey rolls dead-up behind another ball. Tell me that's not bad luck. I agree with a lot you said but believe me, LUCK LIVES.
