Practiced this shot before with the 8 alot closer to the pocket A but have never made it. But last night at league I made this shot on the hill to win the match. Shot it with a ton of left english and the 8 rolled in to pocket A with pocket speed. Once in a lifetime shot. Teammates couldnt believe it.:D

CueTable Help

Nice shot. You must have hit rail first and then the spin took over and threw the 8 into the pocket.

Good shot to know and well done.
But why did you not kick at it? Seems like the better choice.

Congrats on making the wrong shot! Good shot though. Did go off the 14 or just straight in?

Nice shot.
Probably a safety was a better option though. Just thin the 8 and get the cb on the other side of the table...

My intentions was to get a hit on the 8 and leaving the cub ball back on the opposite end rail making it a difficult shot on the 14 for my opponent. Making the 8 was a bonus. I called the 8 for pocket A, just in case I made it.

Please explain how that works....thanks....SPF=randyg

Every once in a while I practice that shot. You have to aim to just barely miss the object ball and with maximum low inside english. After the cue ball misses the oject ball it will spin towards the object ball after the spin takes effect from the rail. I have done it with the object ball frozen to the rail which I believe is the same as in the diagram. A very low percentage shot but sometimes can come in handy with similar circumstances but a bit less extreme. Your a BCA Master Instructor. Why would you need an explanation?

thats such a tough shot, I have seen that shot played off the 14 before but a back cut that thin is near impossible. I've been trying the shot and even when I hit it good I cant get the 8 to roll far enough to go into the pocket. You must have had some nice new cloth on a bar box to do this one. Or my set up is off!!!

You stated that it would "throw the 8 into the pocket". I now know what you really meant....SPF=randyg

And it's not necessary for the english to be low. I've shot this a billion times over the years and am not afraid to take a slice at it in a game situation. I don't always make it but I've made it enough times that I'll go for it under the right circumstances.

Someone said it was the wrong shot. I'm sorry, I don't see it like that. Granted, there is a huge chance to hit too far off to the right and totally miss the ball and give up BIH but, if done correctly there is a good chance of making it AND if you miss, and you've hit it with the right speed, the cueball is going to be back up table leaving a table length bank, which could be a sell out against someone that banks well, but in all fairness, I'd accept the loss. Only other choice would be to slow roll it down and try to leave it right against the 8 and I'm sorry, but from that distance, I see that as very very low percentage. I don't like kicking at it either, but then again, I'm aware of the fact that kicking is one of my weak points.

Congratulations

An amazing shot, especially with no help from the 14. And MOST especially at hill and in front of your whole team... High Five!!

I don't see how you make that ball and only expect the qball to go one rail.
