Magic Rack Question

I play in a weekly handicap tournament and before today's tournament started I asked the director is we could use the magic rack if we choose to and he told me, "Magic racks are not allowed in rack your own tournaments." Is this true and if so what is the logic behind it. I got the feeling that he was being a little arbitrary but I'm not sure.

Seems like a magic rack would level the playing field between the good players and lesser players, No?

This is my first post so I hope I didn't screw it up to badly...thanks in advance for the help.
 
Magic rack

We use the magic ball rack (MBR) at a lot of events.

A lot of the events are rack your own.

The 17th Annual Jay Swanson memorial 9-ball event uses the MBR (Feb 23 & 24,2013). At Hardtimes in Bellflower .

The 20th Annual US Bar Table Championships in Reno uses the MBR. this is a $25,250 added event. 8-ball, 9-ball, & 10-ball.

I just think your tournament director has not thought it all the way through.
People think that a perfect rac will make balls every time and all that. The idea of a rack is to make the rack tight. That is all the MBR does.

We have a standard policy. In any tournament, a player can use a MBR - but he has to let the opponent use it if they want to.

All a MBR can do is offer a tight rack. Which is the idea of a triangle.

I would vote for the MR used when playing 10-ball. As far as racking 9-ball so a ball is not dead or almost dead enough to throw into a pocket a high percentage of the time...forgetaboutit. They have tried everything there is to try. 14.1, 1-hole, and 8-ball really does not work IMO.

Pretty much right on the 9ball rack... Even tho the Accu-Rack Templates mimic the cloth and create a break spread like there was no template the wing ball is still pretty makeable if you know how to break 9Ball...

I tested the Accu-Rack System 9Ball template breaking with the 9 on the spot and driving 3 balls past the head string rule and had no problems like were seen in the past... Hoping to see a blue spider looking template in play next Mosconi =)

With the 10ball rack the dead balls are the ones behind the 1ball... Once again different qualities/variables can make these balls easier to pocket...

At the US Bar Table, we use the Magic Ball Rack for 10-ball, 9-ball and 8-ball.

I agree it does not work for 1-pocket or straight pool.

It works great for 10 and 9.
Most people think it wont work for 8-ball but it works great on Diamond tables. On dirty, heavy cloth and dirty balls - it may not work well because the balls do not want to seperate.

Works well with 8-ball at the US Bar Table. If you want to watch, it will be on TAR during February 25-Mar 3, 2013.

Mark you guys always do things right :thumbup:

Diamond tables, New Simonis and Aramith Super Pros.... Your tournaments make players think they have died and gone to heaven....

Hope to make it out to Vegas at some point to be part of the spectacle in person ... It's on my pool bucket list....
