I never seemed to have had any problems with the earlier generation Magic Racks. Put the balls on, quickly touch them in, hey lock into place and your ready to go.

I'm finding that with some of the newer MRs, much more "touching in" is needed. Mainly, the difficulties are with the two balls just behind the head ball (1). I am referring, btw, to racking 9 ball.

Has anyone else noticed such a change in the newer gen MRs?

best,

A few of my friends and I have had the same problem here. I wish I'd never lost my Black Magic Rack, and I wish they still sold the older versions.

It's bout economics.... I would hazard a guess that the originals were cut using a vinyl digitizer and the new ones are being punched by a press several at a time.... I have a new design with different geometry and materials in RD and have discussed the options with a local sign shop who has agreed to digitize my first few batches 1 at a time....... Now I just need a name.......

I have a new Magic Rack and I don't have this problem.

The best solution for my home table was to put the clear plastic inserts down with the Slug Doctor and then fine tune their placement with the Magic Rack.

Before doing this I made damn sure the rack was not tilted. Then, after placing down the Delta 13 rack around the balls, I marked the circles inside the outer back circles of the Delta 13 rack so that I could rack the balls normally and slide the balls up to the dimples, using the circles as guides, for a much faster and accurate racking. Of course you could mark your table around the rear edges of another rack.

This method is extremely better than individually placing all the balls down in an 8 ball rack. Just slap the balls in the rack and slide them on up to the designated spot - if you miss the target the balls will move - only then required a slight adjustment. I use this method for 9 ball too.

When I am playing the ghost, it is almost like cheating. The wing ball in 9 ball goes 95% of the time. The one ball either goes into the side, or misses and comes down to the other end of the table. I give myself 2 points for running out without placing the cue ball after breaking - that way I have an incentive to watch where the cue ball and other important balls are going.

Finally, for what it is worth, the wing ball does not go in with the regularity of the Slug Doctor setup. To me, this demonstrates that the Magic Rack is inferior to the Slug Doctor, probably due to the fact that the Magic Rack dimple holes are deeper.
