Magic Rack

Just wanted to give a review on the Magic Rack. It came this moring and I tried it out. I only used the 9 ball one, didn't try the 8 ball rack.

Pros:
1) Lays flat, does not interfere with balls that roll over it
2) Gives a tight repeatable rack
3) Easy to use
4) Cheap (less than $20)
5) Easy to tell if balls separate and if they leave the rack
6) 9 ball typically stays inside the rack

Cons:
1) Says on the instructions that it will only last 3 - 6 months.
2) Takes a little more time to rack compared to the Sardo Tight Rack

In short, I am extremely pleased with this rack.

the breaking power goes "around" the nine when everything touches.

the MBR are pretty good, i like em for 9 and 10 ball. for 8 ball i prefer a nice wood triangle, dont ask me why :embarrassed2:

and ours lasted longer than 6 months, if they r used and stored prorpperly they will last for around 12 months.

afterwards the holes get bigger and the break gets inconsistent.

Got this yesterday & I have to say it is amazing, I had a tight rack everytime & only 1 cluster in 2 hours of play.

I also achieved my first break & run in 9 ball after making 2 on the break, the magic rack in my opinion makes the game look & feel easier for amateurs like myself.

I have a wooden triangle.

I love it.

It takes seconds to use.

I can rack 8 ball, 9 ball, 7 ball, 10 ball, 3 ball, and 6 ball.

I can also play straight pool, pill pool, cut throat and many others.

I rack the balls and then I take it off the table so it doesn't interfere with the break shot.

I believe it will last forever.

A person must use either centennial or super pro balls with a magic rack, if your using lesser quality balls you will get inconsistent racks.
The size and weight tolerance is way off on balls other than the two top self balls I mentioned. If you have the premium green box balls or less you can use the accu-rack if your wanting to use something like the magic rack.
The magic rack must be used with super pro or centennial balls' no questions asked' if you want consistent results.

Hope this helps to clear things up that most people are unaware of.

Do you still use clay balls too? Hey, they were round, right (sorta)? Purists' gonna purist.

I do have a question, and maybe this is a controversial one. I came across this watching a couple of youtube videos (been out of the game for a bit)

How does this rack NOT affect the path of the balls? If the rack is capable of holding the balls in place, a ball rolling over the holes would in fact roll in an different direction... nevermind having a completely different material? Has anyone tried to slow roll a shot over the holes in the rack before?

I prefer the traditional rack, because at least that way, there's nothing on the surface of the table.

Isn't reading the rack a part of the game anyway?

just my thoughts.

The rack does minimally effect the roll of balls over it. It also greatly effects spin of the cueball/any object ball sitting on it or if the contact point is on the rack. But 90% of the time, the rack can be removed after the break and the times that it can't you can either remove and re-spot or just play as it lies until it's free. The frequency that it will actually end of affecting play is really quite low. That said, this rack is straight cheating for 9b on a diamond. I use it on my home table, a diamond pro-am 8' and watched a few videos of SVB in the 2013 9b barbox championships where he breaks just off the rail at the head string using a ridiculous softbreak. I'm not a good player at all and was able to do the exact same thing as him with no practice, and with 100% effectiveness. The wingball on the side you're breaking rolls straight into the same-side corner, the 1b rolls just past the opposite-side pocket towards the opposite-side corner and the cueball sits in the middle of the table easily. It's fun, but it really is cheating...at least for 9b on a 7' or 8' diamond (and probably other tables and sizes).

Cyclop balls work with this rack as well.

Watch the 9 ball, on the very first break of this video... you can tell it affects the way the ball rolls. 1:42 and at 1:58

It's like that old hustle, where you put a twenty dollar at the rail, and try to get someone to lag a ball onto it. It has an almost imperceptible curve to it, but it definitely affects the ball.

It's just crazy that players are okay with this.

I have used this on a few tables and at a bar that have cheap $35 balls and can say it works well and does not require high level balls.

I purchased it, actually purchased 2 as the bar I play out of has 4 tables, after watching some pool championship games on ESPN and seeing it in use.

So I would say to you naysayers and to those that question it's use at the bar, if it is good enough for professional players that make a living a playing pool, then it is good enough for your amateur butt.

I use the same Magic Rack for almost 2 years (I'm playing 6-10 hours per week) and it is in good shape.
