Major Announcement

Oops! Never Mind. I found it. My eyes don't work too well this early. It is channel 75 here. I gues they will have to change their slogan: "OLN is THE channel for the outdoor enthusiast. It is the first and only 24-hour cable network devoted exclusively to the 175 million people in the U.S. who consider outdoor activities, and the excitement that goes with them, an important part of their lives."

Either that or we will be playing outdoor pool again. Anyone remember the ESPN event done in the boat house in Orlando? That was brutal. I saw the wind scratch a ball that was headed two diamonds away from the closest hole.

It says OLN is available in over 69 million homes in the US. That seems like pretty broad coverage.

So how many of you guys can actually get it? And will you need to pay a subscription to receive it?
Never heard of it but since I have a dish, I'm sure I'll have to pay for it, if it's available to dish customers.

Guess they'll wait til 11:59 for a dramatic finale.
Ok, so it was 11:32 & not 11:59... Close enough. ;)

Well Timberly it looks like you are now the darling of the IPT. A little reverse psychology on your part pretending to put the IPT down? And now we know you love them and want to help publicize them.

And surely you must have inside information to not only know what Deno was going to announce but to know when he would announce it.

That couldn't have been purely by coincidence.

Fess up girl; you are part of the IPT PR team.

And I don't have Comcast here. Only Galaxy. Will it be broadcast on Dish or Direct TV?

Sunday 7pm is a pretty good time slot.
OLN is included in my basic cable package from Comcast.

This is one announcement from the IPT that has made me very happy. :D

At first, I had absolutely no idea what OLN was, or if I even had it in my standard cable package here in new england. After searching the channel listings of my cable provider, I finally learned that I actually do have it (Outdoor Life Network). I didn't know the channel existed at all.

However, I'm not nearly as happy as some of you guys. I actually think this is a bit of a disappointment. Don't get me wrong...any television exposure of the IPT is better than nothing. But OLN? That's the best they can do? I wouldn't call that a "major" channel, considering that I didn't know even know I had the fricken channel (and I watch A LOT of TV). I was hoping for the Travel Channel, Bravo, Spike, or something else.

Okay peeps...we gotta do our part and advertise this thing to everyone we know. Because surely not many people will stumble on this by accident.

Man, get out of my brain. I could have just written that post myself.
I live in R.I. and we have Cox cable and I just had to go to their website and look at the channel line up to see if I even have it and we do. Now I've been described as somewhat of a sports fanatic and I've never heard of this channel til now which worries me, I'll try to stay optimistic.
The flipside is that OLN appears to be an up and comer so we'll just have to do our part and spread the word.

Dish Network does have it, but unfortunately for me, I'm left out with the "America's Top 120" package. Maybe its time for me to upgrade, at least for those six weeks.

If you have "America's Top 180" or "America's Everything Pak", you're good to go. It's channel 151:

The reason I got the dish was because cable had gotten entirely too expensive. Now the dish is going up... I'll be damned if I'm going to pay the same price I did for cable to see a mediocre finals at best. Might as well pay $50 for the DVD. This is good news for people with cable that have the channel. I just don't think it's worth the price of admission for me. Maybe the next tourney they have will be.

My neighbors have comcast, I'll cheat & go to their place to check out the other matches. LOL, don't think I'll bother with the finals... although I might find it quite enjoyable....Not only does MS get schooled but I think he's quiet isn't he?;)

I don't recall ever putting the IPT down. I've just diagreed with a specific here or there from time to time. I'm not a hater, I'm optimistic.

Did the IPT buy time on this network or did OLN pay the IPT for the rights to telecast?

Actually, Mike the Mouth is still quite vocal and very entertaining in the finals. The line, "How's my GLI looking now?" is priceless.

I had never heard of OLN either, but then I am not a big channel surfer or tv watcher. I usually just buy or rent the tv shows I like after the fact. I don't even use my Tivo all that much, but I did get a Slingbox for Christmas which I haven't hooked up yet. Will be cool when in Europe to watch American tv on my laptop.

OLN is channel 34 on our Comcast cable network. OLN may possibly become well-known BECAUSE of the IPT...

I am quite amazed

With all you sports fans out there. OLN carried the Tour De France and I know you all heard of that. They are also now carrying many of the NHL playoffs. Both Comcast and Charter cables carry this channel with your package. They also advertise on other channels to get you to come to them.

P.S. Both Direct tv and Dish carry oln with basic packages.

Already listed in their series section http://www.olntv.com/nw/article/view/963/?tf=nwArticle.tpl

Hard to say how many hockey fans might watch, but it's a perfect time to show the series since they have the most viewers now. I'm sure OLN will feature some commercials showing the upcoming times, hopefully during some games.

They are also trying to move away from the term Outdoor Life Network, they even removed it from the web site, they are trying to just push OLN, I bet the people in marketing are trying to fit a new name to the call letters:D At the point they got the NHL, I would have change the call letters.

I think they will promote the IPT more then say a Fox or ESPN would since they are trying to build slowly to a more diverse sports network. Comcast also has the means to put vast amounts of money into the network. I could be wrong, but I think since both the IPT and OLN are new and trying to grow and expand, they are perfect for each other. I'm sure KT got the best deal for the IPT. OLN trying to expand it's reach can probably beat out most of the competitors who would have tried the unproven IPT broadcast.

It looks a very bright start with the TV broadcasting of the KOTH on Prime Time TV as predicted by Kevin Trudeau. :)

Things are starting to take shape, good news for all pool fans (especially those based in the USA).

I look forward to hearing some news on European or British broadcasting the IPT events.

Deno, any news on this?

Well, The OLN name will be replaced this fall.

Stamford, CT (April 24, 2006) – As the NHL Playoffs get underway on OLN, the network announces that, as of September 2006, the channel will be known as Versus. Versus will focus squarely on competition and every aspect of the competitive world. Whether it is Man vs. Man, Man vs. Beast or Team vs. Team, the channel will celebrate sports at its best, where athletes and sportsmen compete at their highest levels with the greatest passion.

This sounds great, It would be cool if they used the station call letters VS.

Anyway, looks like they are going to push a big marketing campaign outside of the network this fall, I think the IPT may have really got in on the ground floor of a great rival sports network, both the IPT and VS. are spending lots of money.

The press release really shows they intend to push hard, it's a good read.

I have the basic package... just checked my channel guide. It's not included in DishNetworks basic package. I don't know about Direct TV or not.

I am sorry for you and others who have not heard of OLN. If you like sports, other than the majors, like baseball, football, etc., OLN is the place to be. They are growing continuously and I read something indicating that they plan on competing with the major networks for the sports audience. You may want to check this channel out.

BTW, many people, including myself, do not get the Travel Channel. OLN will provide a much larger potential audience, because it is more readily available.

I also think it is great that OLN is airing the IPT shows at the same time and day, every week, for the duration of the series. Not like ESPN, where pool programing is used as filler whenever they need it.

I agree! I think it's a huge step in the right direction and will be much easier to catch. ESPN is hit or miss... they say ESPN2 and put it on ESPN at the last min because a softball game went long (so much for recording it, but yet they'll cut an Indy car race off for going long. Go figure  ) Or ESPN just flat out doesn't show it in order to show something else like ping pong or the rock, paper, scissors championship. :o

Thanks for the info. I was a little surprised and amused at the announcement last night. Pool is as far from an outdoor sport as you can get. But it seems as though they are trying to re-organize their network with some new original content, much like Spike tv did with the Ultimate Fighter.

Thanks for the heads up regarding the name change of OLN, I was wondering how pool abd hockey fit into the outdoor life category. With the major change going on with this network to show competitive sports I think the ipt has made a good choice. I guess I better get ready to program the tivo...
