Male Chauvinism and Kim Bennet

I was talking to a military officer here in Iraq, a non poolplayer, about the skill difference between men and women in pool. I was on AZ and saw Kim Bennet's name in the latter rounds of the One Pocket. I said "what the heck?" thinking it was a woman. He looked over my shoulder and says, "See, women can play too!"

I thought for a second and said, "Oh, I get it now. Kim Bennet is a DUDE." (I had never heard of him.)

He says "Why does it HAVE to be a dude?"

I said, "Because no women currently on the pro tour can make it 6 rounds deep into a One Pocket tournament with all the top male players there. So it HAS to be a guy named Kim. Nuff said."

He thought I was just against women in pool, until we looked up a reference to Kim being both Alice Rim's coach and boyfriend.

I just thought it was a little funny that I came across like a pig, even though with the state of women's pool right now, it's just the truth.

Whaddaya think?

Sad but true. Women can handle a cue pretty well, but not a hustlers game like One Pocket. There just aren't very many women that gamble, and there aren't many tournaments for this game either, especially for women.

I did see a couple of women play good straights though.

I dont think it is Chauvinistic to state a fact .... that men are better pool players than women in the topmost ranks. The results speak for themselves ... even in the IPT 8-ball Open tournaments (that's another game, in addition to One-Pocket).

Russ,

The fact is it sounds chauvinistic when you say "no women can do something." At the same time, that may be true today, but it has the potential of changing. SO I don't think you were being a pig at all. It is factual for today. You might not want to use, "never", "always", and those kind of words when refering to women...that should get the pig part out. LOL Thanks for sharing though bro!

FWIW, Kim is a pretty good player out of Detroit.
