Mali Cues

Anybody know anything about Mali cues? They appear to be relatively cheap production cues and a friend of mine is looking to buy in that price range. Any suggestions or comments? After scrambling for some research, I believe that these guys stopped making cues a while back, yet I find some websites, such as billiardswarehouse that carries new cues stating that theyre back in business. These cues are also somehow linked to palmer, I believe palmer used to sell their cues or something? Thanks in advance for the info everyone.

they moved their buisness overseas about 5 years ago.
the older, USA ones are much better cues than the "china" ones IMO.

A friend of mine had a table in his basement back in NY. When I didn't have my cue with me I used his Dad's Mali. I liked the feel and hit of it, but that was many years ago before the when to China. I was a Viking man myself. Johnnyt

mali

hi, i have a couple of older malis ,mali started making cues in early 1920s,and made many quality cues with palmer like points,pm me

I won one of the new vintage # 8 cues in a tourneyment raffle a few months back. its worth the 5 bucks I paid for it. LOL

Actually, its not a bad hitting cue, its pretty, has real inlys and has spliced points and seems to be constructed ok. It plays as good or better than the players and such in that price range. it does has a stiff hit in my opinion. been in a case and in and out of the car for a few months now and no warpage.

if your friend likes this model I'll cut him a deal.

I have a Mali break cue that's real good..Have no idea how old it is I traded a cuetec for it..The trade wasn't my idea a friend loved the cuetec..I didn't like the balance or the way the cuetec played and was using it as a break cue at the time..Anyway, this Mali was a special cue they made called a big bopper or something like that, so I was told..It has a small wrap, different from most and I like it, use to use it allot..Because of my Mali break cue I have met quite a few players that use Maile and love them, swear by them..

I have several Mail cues. I purchased my first in 1977. Was given a high end Mali (from the company) in 1997 and then purchased another high end Mali (cuesport) in 2000. The cues were well made when they were assembled here in the U.S. and they were/are good hitting cues. Being assembled in America drove up their prices and they couldn't compete with other companies manufacturing cues overseas. I think they sent their production overseas in the last 5-8 years. Peter Balnar is the connection between Palmer and Mali Cues. I think he was related to Palmer somehow and then went off to build cues for Mali in the 70;s.
The company itself was established in 1826 and makes most of their money off of the felt/cloth used on gaming tables.

I believe the model is 94' V4 (the green one with white/green specs wrap)...If anyone has one and wants to sell it, HIT ME UP!!! its the first "custom" cue i ever owned and want another. Used is fine as long as its in decent shape and straight...and the shaft is above 12.5mm :D:D

poohall maven...You might say that! Pete Balner is Eugene Balner's son (Balner created Palmer Cues in the early 60's). After Pete sold the company to an overseas concern, the quality of Palmer Cues went downhill in a hurry. Pete had a small financial interest in Mali cues, and sold them through a subsidiary company called Cuesports Ltd., but only for a few years. To my knowledge, Pete was never involved in building cues for Mali...only selling them.
