Managing lower back issues

I have a bulging disk. I need to lose weight and exercise. The two nights ago I went to play and I was in pain before I went. I took half a pain pill. I ended up playing until 5am - so about 9 hours. In that time I took two more halves and was still in pain.

The next day I was useless and in tremendous pain. I really need to find a better way to manage this or I will have to quit pool.

So thanks for the tips. I can only add that good shoes help. I only wear Birkenstocks and they seem to help.

What kind of pain medication are you referring to? I am taking Gabapentin which is a nerve blocker so to speak. It is also supposed to help you stay asleep when you fall asleep. The only side affect I have from it is a bit of dry mouth. My back pain is from a myafacial tear in my neck which caused my neck and mid/upper back to be stiff. I have since then gotten a new ergonomic chair at work which has lumbar support. So far within this week it seems my mid/upper back is better, but now the pain has sort of shifted to my lower to mid back where the support is...I hope this is only due to changing chairs and my body will adapt. Going to PT too even though I am not expecting that to help too much, time will tell.

Next step is possibly an injection in my neck...hopefully I don't have to do that.

80 mg Oxicontin or any other Narcotic pain reliever. The medication Gabapentin is not a Narcotic pain reliever, it is an anti-epileptic medication, also called an anticonvulsant that is used for some forms of pain, but is also used for seizures, man that stuff has some serious side effects.

But, if it works I understand why you would take the risk, I mean pain really sucks.

Good Luck
