@ Marboys.... 33:39 Chua's shot to Get back Up Table

The first time I saw Johann Chua play was at the World Cup of Pool in 2023.

I remember Jeremy Jones saying Chua was probably a Top Five player in the world if he committed himself to the pro tour.

I thought to myself, what? Like, who is this guy? I had never heard of him.

(Mainly because I knew nothing about pro pool until I started watching in 2022).

Well, Chua dominated that tournament. Absolutely dominated. He carried James Aranas and they won the title.

Beat FSR and Alcaide handily. Beat Filler and Neuhausen convincingly. Had a big lead vs the Ko brothers that they gave up, but still won.

Chua played with great confidence and flair. He made a number of incredible shots. And he coached Aranas to his best performances ever.

After that? Not much for a while. Chua did not commit to the tour in 2023 and he was erratic.

Fast forward to 2024 and he finally committed. And he’s racked up more success than any other player except for Gorst.

Highlights:

Third place, World Pool Championship

Third place, Knight Shot 9-ball Open

Fifth place, 2024 Lushan Open

First place, Hanoi Open

First place, Zen&Youn8 Open

First Place, Marboys Open

Yeah, the far side, The shot wasn't even close in that regard. To me, the likely scratch is on his side off the 8.
Exactly, you mis-red my words.

''did make sure of, that he'd come up short, not allowing the side pocket scratch.''

anyone who thinks this cat played that carom needs to put the pipe down. Turned out great but as the GOAT would say, " I got lucky".

And anyone thinking that he wasn't aware of it's possibilities is usually racking in a gambling match.

No ones Mentioned, how they woulda gotten up table :).
Most all would of played safe, so then Why did he choose that shot?
You'd most likely have to ask Efren.
He understands.

I'm with garczar... You want an alternative design..? How about missing the 8 and running back and forth. If he hits it low on the second rail, then he likely hits the 7. The 5/6 combo is simple enough. If he hits real good he misses the 7 entirely. At the pace he hit it, he'd still likely be on the combo. Zero need to hit that 8.

IMHO, he miss hit the 4 real thin and got a forgiving hit on the 8. I'll only go as far as to consider he leaned toward a possible favourable carom IF he didn't hit it good enough. He should have been able to miss that 8 by a good margin if he really wanted to.

Agreed that it looked like a fluke.

I'm actually surprised he didn't play the 9 ball on that shot. It seemed in the big ball position. I feel like he is at least 30-40% to pocket the 9 ball on that shot with a bit of inside, and he could always duck on the 5 as a back up. If there was a high percentage way to get on the 5 I'd play it, but it seemed easier to make the 9 than to obtain position and with a higher reward.
