Mariposa cues are one-of-a-kind, custom cues hand crafted with great care using only the finest available materials. Mariposa (Spanish for butterfly) cues are named for the multi-colored "butterfly points" utilized in their higher end designs. Superior craftsmanship, excellent playability, and very limited production have allowed these cues to hold their value, year after year. Every cue comes with a lifetime warranty covering workmanship and materials (void only if abused or neglected). Starting at just $495, anyone can feel the joy of owning a beautiful Mariposa cue. sales@mariposacues.com

Mariposa cues are one-of-a-kind, custom pool and billiard cues hand-crafted by Kyle Van den Bosch of Chicago, IL. Kyle has been immersed in the sport of pool for most of his life. His father owned and operated the Chicago Billiard Cafe, where Kyle spent much of his time growing up. The Chicago Billiard Cafe was home to many great pool players and a frequent stop for some of pool?s modern day legends. Kyle had the opportunity to observe as Freddy "The Beard" Bentivegna and Billy Incardona "instructed" the great Efren Reyes in the finer points of one-pocket. Of course, Efren was spotting his instructors a few balls by the end of his "lesson". Other greats that influenced Kyle at the Cafe? include Raymond Ceulemans, Roberto Rojas, Jeff Carter, Leonard ?Bugs? Rucker and many more.

One day, Jeff Carter took Kyle on a day trip to Wisconsin to visit Sailor's cue shop. This is where Kyle first learned about the craft of custom cue making. From this point, Kyle developed a deeper appreciation for the art and craftsmanship involved in cue making. In 1992, Kyle was presented with the opportunity to begin his apprenticeship under Joe Gold of Cognoscenti Cues. Kyle fell in love with the craft immediately. Soon his creative juices were flowing and his own design ideas needed expression. In 1994, Kyle went out on his own and began creating the Mariposa in the basement of the Chicago Billiard Cafe.

Growing up in a pool hall, Kyle had the opportunity to play with many different cues, and his favorite was a Helmstetter with a wooden screw. This was the main influence and inspiration for the design of the Mariposa cue. "I really liked the way it played and wanted to make a cue that had the same feel. A solid hitting cue that offered feedback when I struck the cue ball which allowed me to develop a greater feel for the game. My Helmstetter had the screw attached to the shaft, but I wanted to give that cue a more modern design. I also admired the old school look of the butterfly point." Kyle went to work perfecting the 15/32" diameter wooden joint screw that he now uses on all of his cues. His methods for construction, ringwork and finishing have been developed over the years by studying the masters. He has adopted, adjusted and perfected the processes to create a masterpiece. Mariposa cues have been featured in all three editions of The Blue Book of Pool Cues.

Mariposa cues have always been created with Kyle's environmentally responsible philosophy in mind. Mariposa cues have never been created using ebony or ivory. All cues are finished using a nontoxic, water-based topcoat, limiting any adverse effects to the environment. Mariposa cues support and purchase raw material from suppliers who harvest their wood through sustainable forestry, as well as providing
non-exploitational employment for their workers. In addition, Mariposa cues contributes to Nature.org and other organizations who fight to protect the environment. Mariposa Cues is concerned with both the balance of nature and the ?Nature of Balance.?

Another bump for my friend Kyle and the great hitting Mariposa cues. Deacon

I am currently having two plain jane wrapless cues refinished by Kyle.

They should be finished by the end of the week. I will post some pictures when I get them back.

Kyle is really a stand up guy. Anyone considering playing with one of his cues, I can do nothing but approve that decision!

Kyle's cues should be in an upcoming issue of Inside Pool. I heard that they are writing an article with pictures of his cues.

Cool Cues!

The cues look GREAT!

Nice Website too Susie!

Best of Luck with Your Sales & Happy Holidays ;)

Hello,
I have hit with an older cue like this before, the cue had as well the same wood to wood joint and thread. I loved it. It was an old cue but it is my favorite so far.
On the cues available there are no pricing?
Is it possible to get more details?
Tony

Thanks for the compliments, and I'll be sure to pass your nice comments on to Kyle. When I posted this info for him, I was just helping out a friend to let others know about his cues. Other than the post, I have nothing to do with his cues (wish I did) nor his website. A few people have contacted me instead of Kyle, and I was and still am more than happy to pass your questions on to him. As far as prices and cues ready to be sold, I have little knowledge on that information. Kyle has been so greatful for everyone's nice words about his cues and website.

I hope everyone has a very happy holiday season!

I have passed on your messages to Kyle, and he is very thankful to all the nice things everyone has said. Many people have shown interest in his cues.

Has anyone bought one? If so, how is it playing?

Happy New Year to everyone!

i have to imagine that with the wood pin they have a soft hit? What kind of taper is he using? i tried a starkey with a wood pin like that but it had a laminated shaft that i didn't care for. That cue with the bocote pin looked awsome

I have one of Kyles older cues. Its the cue on top in my avatar.

I prefer a cue that hits soft or medium and this particular cue certainly fits the bill. I've hit with a Starkey & it definitely hits a lot harder/firmer than the Mariposa.

No way to describe how the cue hits except to say its unique and pleasant and was very easy to get used to. The taper on each shaft is slightly different. Both shafts spin the cueball quite nicely.

I've talked to Kyle a couple of times and traded numerous emails and he seems to be pretty good guy.

Don't see how anyone could go too far wrong owning one of his cues.
