Looks like cocobolo to me...very brown though.
No clue on maker.

Nah, not cocobolo. My first thought was ebony. We talked briefly over the phone about it and he did give me some details on it, but I'll defer this to Dean to let him tell you guys about it. I will say that it was an interesting conversation about the good old days. I love history, so I really enjoyed it. I think I'll go over to Youtube and check out some vids on these master craftsman making cues. Thanks to Deano I may be in the beginning stages of custom cue addiction. LOL

He also wanted to see if you guys could nail down the particulars of who you think the maker is, the type of wood, etc.

He doesn't know who made his own cue or anything about it?

I have to wonder how he placed a value on it before original purchase.

…maybe wenge, if I pronounced that right.
could be the picture, the shaft looks like its 13 - 14 mm with an undersize aft.
Can you tell yet if it would rather break or would it prefer the precision decision shot?

congrats BTW...

Yes he knows who made it. I think he just wanted to have some fun and see if anyone could ID the cue by looking at the pics. Sorry if I didn't convey that better. I know the pics aren't very good.

Okay I guess it maybe awhile before Dean chimes in so I'll tell you what I know about it. It was made by Bob Runde, founder of Schon cues. It's a bit longer than the standard length cue and the dark wood is African Blackwood. I don't remember him saying what the shaft was made of, just kinda assuming it's Maple. He said the blackwood is extremely heavy and hard. I had lots of questions for him, but unfortunately didn't have very much time to talk as I was on my way to work.

Edit: I googled the African Blackwood and I think it is in the ebony family, here is a link below. Sounds like the wood is getting rare and possibly going extinct.

Dean said it was a players cue. He also told me not to baby it, have fun with it and break with it if I want. I think it would also be a good one for the precision shot as well. I doubt that I'll break with it though, but I'll certainly use it for the rest of my life. It's fits my taste to a tee, just what I would order if I was going to order a custom cue.

Can be blackwood. It is brown!

Super sweet cue, in all honesty.

Can dumbody tell him how to tell if it is cored?

Bob runde made this cue for me last month

I always liked his cues when he was at schon,
I also liked Evan Clarks and the new ones too

It was just natural for me to continue buying Runde
