He BOMBED the field! That's all. There were 44 strong players in Banks, 78 more in One Pocket and 128 in the 9-Ball. Mark won the Banks and 9-Ball and finished second to Steve Cook in the One Hole. His total CASH win for the week was $26,000 in 1992. And he got every penny too! I know because I was the guy who handed him the cheese. :smile:
A couple of Tadd stories
In Enterprise Al Mark comes into a bowling alley and asks my buddy to play some. My buddy says okay. Mark had watched him hit a few balls and said he wanted to make sure it was fair and that he played really good. He gave my friend the 6 out without seeing him shoot. My buddy racked and racked and racked. He literally wore the rack around his neck.
There were hardly anyone in the place and when my buddy quit the manager came out with another hundred just to see him shoot some more.
My buddy asked him why he gave him the weight. Mark replied that he wanted it to be a challenge and that it didnt matter what his opponnet got it was all about what he did. Oh yeah -- they were playing for a whooping $10 a game.
A few days later in Dothan Al there was a big tournament at Pockets. All the souths strong players were there including Johnny. Well in comes Tadd and he proceeds to offer to play anyone. No takers .. so he offers the room the 8ball. At this point people were wondering who he was and if he was nuts. Finally Dave Grossman said he would play for with the 7ball. At that time Dave was a solid top player. I cant remember if Dave wins the first 6 or runs outs but in game 7 he didnt make a ball on the break. Mark then stepped up got out and ran 7. He didnt win another game.
Crazy part is that he could have 300-500 in the bowling alley or maybe even 1000. and in Dothans he could have won 20k +. I just dont think it was his style.
In South Carolina once I saw him there just breaking over and over. Had to be close to four hours. Never shot another ball. I asked him why and he said he knew he wasnt going to miss but that he had to get a ball down on the break and have a shot. Oh yeah and the whole time he was hitting them there was an offer for anyone in the room to play. Again all the champs were there. I think Tony Mougey ended up playing him a set of banks and not likling it.
Many of the top players hit gears that most of us pool fans don't get to see. Its a pleasure and a treat when we do.

Very funny story. Mark and Bobby Baker (guy in his sixties, now deceased) decided to play 100 points knock gin for $100. Bobby had him down 99-00 when Bobby started to talk a little trash. Mark got up, told him he didn't like his attitude, and he was finished. Bobby went outside and came back in with his gun in his pocket. They had to escort him out. One of the wildest moves I'd seen. Mark simply said,"I don't like where this is headed, and I'm not paying you." Bobby was a very hotheaded kind of guy. I stepped away from Mark out of fear of a stray bullet. I truly thought Bobby was gonna shoot him. Mark showed no interest at all. I'm glad they stopped Bobby at the door.

I believe that Bakers Billiards is for sale but I am not positive. Someone told me that both were ready to sell. I thought only one brother remained with the biz but I am not sure.
After reading about Tadd, I watched 3 different dvd's I have of him.
The first was against Bill Incardona 92 LA open 9 ball. Tadd won.
2nd was in 92 against Parica in banks for cheese and Tadd won.
3rd was 93 LA open 1 hole finals against Steve Cook, Cook won.
Tadd sure looked strong to me.
I'm glad you guys talked about this, as I've got about 20 dvd's that are of old matches of alot of players that I bought off a guy a few years ago. Now I'm going to watch them all.

First time I watched him play was at the Wendover open tournament.. he walked in with his 2 piece cue in hand (no case), good friends of mine that have known him since the good ol days, stating that he hadn't played in YEARS. He snapped off the single elim nine ball tournament. He just showed up out of the blue, and got signed up. He is a pleasure to watch.

YUP!, I have the one of Mark an Parica....Mark misses a few balls early and looks like he is gonna flip the table over in disgust....then all of the sudden he catches a gear and goes like 4out banks.....breaks and 5 out banks....5 out banks....crazy confident!....watching that makes me think there is a wonderous place where the top gear is just short of religious!!!
