Is he going to pick the team this year or are players going to get a chance to earn their spot on the the team?

There are going to be points awarded at 4 or 5 9-ball tournaments this year and the top three players will be on the team plus 2 captains picks. So it almost mirrors the Euro selection criteria.

I'm not aware of matchroom clarifying that. Their press release did NOT say that the top three players would be chosen. It said that three players would be selected from the top 32 and then 2 wild cards would be chosen.

As that stands it would be little different from this year, only instead of choosing eight early on and being able to choose anyone they want, they would have to choose at least three from the top 32 based on the tournaments they choose and they wouldn't be limited to the 8 later on in the year if results suggest others to be better selections.

The biggest problem I had with this is the last minute notification that the DCC nineball would be one of the tourneys.

Many people couldn't change their plans that late and that and the fact that it was a WPA event would certainly have changed some people's decision not to go.

Jaden -- I think the number 32 in the Matchroom announcement just referred to the top 32 places in each event -- those are the only positions in each event that will offer ranking points.

This post from 8 days ago says the top 3 players on the ranking-points list will be on the team:

Not looking at the thread, but I believe it said that the players who are eligible to represent team USA and finish in the top 32 would be assigned points, and the top 3 would be on the team. The Captain has ONLY 2 picks. At least that's what I hope it said!

I would like to see 4 of the 5 make the team on U.S ratings only and Mark pick the last one. Not every good American player can travel to China and other countries. IMO it's time to give the Americans a little more to choose from. Maybe Canada or the PI. Johnnyt
