Mosconi cup captain is more like a national team coach Not a club coach like in NBA,EPL, La Liga.
Most of the stuff said (in terms of time, training , resources etc ) are available and can be done by a club coach but not a national team coach . Players have to earn living and have little time with MC Captain while MC Captain has little resources, control over players except for those few weeks he is with them . Every year different set of players and the 5 are not confirmed until few months before MC. Heck, he does not even have the official mandate like a national team coach since he is not mandated or officially recognised by national pool associations so I doubt he can really make big impact in terms of grooming , breeding future players in long run . He is just chosen by Bossman of Matchroom sports so is just de facto national team coach .
And is MC Captain even paid remuneration ? All in all a thankless job . Grooming future players and scouting talent is a long term role MW will excel in but not a short term role like MC captain.
A lot of what the most successful Captain in MC history , Johan R has done with Team Europe are fixes that can be done in short term . Choose 2 Captain picks who can mesh with the team. Work on winning mentality, confidence, self belief , performance under extreme pressure, team dynamics . That excludes drastically changing technical skills of players which takes long time. If he has to teach a player technical skills , then he has selected wrong person for team. It does not sound nice but by and large , MC Captain should be a quick fixer and fix the fixables. Cos,the reality is MC Captain has less influence on the end result than the players . I am guessing MC Captain's influence on the end result is less than 50%, in most cases , likely around 10-20%
