Maryland 14.1 Tournament - Who's going?

The Maryland 14.1 Championship will be June 9th and 10th at Bill & Billie's in Arnold, Maryland.

So far I believe that COLLECTION GURU, Williebetmore, and Jeanette Lee (anonymous lurker) are the only 3 AZB'ers definitely playing. I believe Danny Harriman is considering playing. At least we now know who the top 3 or 4 finishers will be; who else is playing/spectating from AZB???? Who are the strong Maryland players to look out for??

We will hopefully all be arriving Thursday night; allowing time for some serious warmups on Friday. I hope any AZB'ers will take the time to introduce themselves.

P.S. - Where is the best seafood around the Annapolis area?? Someone here must know.

Last year

Danny Harriman was there last year as were a large group of other notables.
I should have a nice booklet printed by the tournament Director of who all was there last year if I can find it. It was a great tournament for me to watch. I look forward to it again this year. Mike Davis was another from my slim memory bank and he may have had the high run of the tournament too.

Hi All,

I've been given the green light to post some of the entrants!

Yes, Indiana/AZ Billiards is represented and Jeanette Lee is in.
Some strong New York/Jersey players are in: Danny Barouty, Steve Lipsky (I think), Ed Hodan (won the November Maryland State last year), Tom Walter, Marty Ciccia, Don Polo. Several other NJ contestants that I don't know.

Danny Harriman played last November and hopefully will be back. It's a long trek from Missouri but he sure loves his straight pool.

Maryland will hold its own with Mike Davis, Ed Deska and hopefully Ryan McCreesh. Davis did run 100 in round robin play last November. McCreesh ran 100 out at 4:00am (in 25 minutes!) to get the qualifying spot last April. Jerry Slivka, Brian O'Donnell are a couple of probable Marylanders with solid games.

Maybe we can get some personal 2007 high runs to post up on "The One's" thread. Surely Williebetmore and myself can break a mere 57! And Mr. Lipsky could easily bust 75 before lunchtime!

I'd better get practicing...

I am going to try my hardest to go. Would hate to miss it, but my boss is leaving the company in a couple days and time off in the near future is a little out of the question.

I'll try to go without missing work but the 4+ hour commute each way will make that a bit difficult.

Sigh... if I miss this tournament I will be very mad.... :(

SL,
Ouch. The tournament is Saturday and Sunday; so I'm deducing that you must work weekends; ouch again.

I hope you do make it; dinner is on me if the time is available; and I promise to tell you an embarrassing story about me that involves your wife (ahh...I see that got your attention...don't worry, all the embarrassment was mine).

I plan to be a spectator and hopefully will get a chance to meet a few of you that I never have in the past - if it was 9-ball, I would be in, but I know my limitations........

Hmmm, tempting tournament, details been posted anywhere yet?

I know some places off the beaten path. Good seafood in Annapolis depends on what you are after. PM me and I'll steer you in the right direction.

Willie,
My wife is a bay girl and she tells me there isn't any bad seafood places in Annapolis. Be sure to order crab cakes since they know how to make them there.

Sorry I can't drive up to watch, I"m leaving for ACS nationals the first day.

Good luck!

Hey The One!

Details of the event and our last couple Bill & Billies straight pool events can be found here:

http://home.comcast.net/~alinco/straight.html

You could play a little 9 ball and 14.1. Our Tiger Pool Tour has a 9 ball event next weekend June 2/3 in Laurel which is about 30 minutes from the straight pool event the following weekend near Annapolis. Details of the 9 ball can be found at http://www.TigerPoolTour.com on the left side of the page.

You could ask Mike Davis about both events. He's down there in Florida with you.

Make sure you call or email Peter Burrows if you want to play. I think there are just about 8 spots left.

Willie,

OK, now I'm all ears :). You have to PM me, because I might not be there!

Actually, don't have to work weekends, but it would entail leaving NYC at about 6:30 Friday, getting in late with probably no practice (not to mention 9 footers look like football fields to me now anyway after Vegas), playing all day Saturday and Sunday, and then having to make the drive back so I can go to work on Monday morning.

I'm still going to try my hardest to make it...

Hey Bank,

Players meeting at 9:30 or 10:00. Rounds slated to go off at 10:30. We'll go to about 9:00 pm.

Parking may be a little tight but not as bad as a 90 player Tiger Pool Tour event. There are additional spots behind the building - just turn right as soon as you get off of rt 2.

My wife and I will be there to watch. Having a long weekend with our duaghter who lives about 10 minutes away.

SL,
Very sorry, but the story can only be told in person (damn character limits on PM's:) ); I hope this gives you more incentive to make the haul.

I also notice that you are planning on playing all day Sunday - that shows EXCELLENT confidence (I'm pretty sure I will only be spectating by Sunday). You have, however, shamed me into practicing some more; so I'm heading down to the basement to work through some more of those PAT drills. Bye.

P.S. - I believe that the tournament director was hoping that some people in the community would host players (for those who don't want to shell out for hotel rooms). We are staying with a local family for the tournament - sounds like fun.
