Maryland State 9-Ball Championship. February 20, 2010.

Agree 100% with your thoughts on limiting the player auction to a smaller number of players and also the equipment issues. Both items have been brought up to the owner in the past, but I think the player input from this tournament will help get them moving in the right direction.
To be fair to the room owners though, it is no secret that ALL pool rooms are struggling and closing down left and right. Maybe they are waiting for business to flourish a little before coughing up the bucks for better equipment, especially when they have a lot of bangers frequent the place that don't respect the equipment anyway.
I personally love this room as a tournament venue. The people are friendly, the food and drink are great, and Larry, Tiny, Guy and all the staff keep the tournament moving as best they can. Yeah, maybe they could use better racks here, better balls there, but given how much everyone has been struggling, I am willing to tolerate that just to keep the place afloat until better can be done.

This is well spoken from a man of genius....

I agree that the tourney was well run.I didnt play that well and like everyone else struggled to play on the equipment. In playing tournaments and all over the world I have never played on such bad equipment.Every table had rail issues and other problems. The racks were about 80 years old.The cue balls didnt match the centennial balls. The cueballs were for home tables as they were extremely light, very cracked and marked up.It simply said the owner of that poolroom should spend some money before they decide to have another tourney or for that case even open up their doors to the public again.Understand that I didnt play well and that is not the reason for my complaint,it is just that there is no reason to play on such bad equipment none.

I can think of about 10 rooms between Dale City and Frederick with worse equipment. At least the crew at All Stars is trying to put together tournaments for the players...not many other rooms are doing that.

You hit the nail on the head with pool rooms closing all over we are lucky to just find a turny to play at all , this turny was run very well they even ran a barbox turny to try to fit in some guys would did not get into the field, they even let a little side match go on between joss brothers and manny chu,
food is good service is good and the people are plesant and the real fact of the matter is I cant remember a time that I have played a turny in md va area that did not have a issue with at least one table and if its not the table then its the balls or its the air :D

As i agree poolrooms are struggling however the racks and balls were no excuse.as for the tables I agree that there are some issues with tables everywhere.Joey it seems strange that you always make a comment to my post in a smartass way or am I imagining something. The tables, balls and racks are perfect where i play at so make an appointment to come to Dale City and i will be more that willing to school you at any game and rob you for what little money you have.
