Mason H Highly Figured Belizian rosewood w/ BEM handle

The Clever Set

I purchased this beautiful Mason H cue from gh8st in January. The butt developed a slight wobble in transit thanks to the USPS*, about 1mm, which doesn't seem to affect the playability of the cue at all. I've got the chance to acquire another Mason H, which I like better so this one needs to find a new home.

Aside from the wobble, the cue is in great shape, with two really tiny dings in the butt.

This cue is made with the old Kersenbrock/SW taper and is a stiff hitter- it really hits a ton.

Here are the specs:

The cue is 57.5", weighs approx 19.1 oz.
Butt is 28.75 and 15.9 oz.
Shafts are 12.9mm and 12.95mm, Milk dud tips, Micarta ferrules, each shaft weighs approx 3.2 ozs, 28.75" w/ Kers taper. One is test hit and the other has some bluing from play.
3/8-10 brass pin, wood to wood joint.
Black phenolic collars and butt cap
Matching maple and rosewood ringwork at A,B,C,D,E.
Signed by MasonH under the buttcap.

The cue looks straight when rolled, but the butt does have the slight wobble.

Pics are from gh8st, I can furnish more.

*My comment about the USPS is an aside, meant to be humorous. If you're an offended postal worker, I'm sorry. Get counseling, but don't crap on my thread about it.

Cue is no longer available!

Because it sat in a frozen mail truck for three extra days, I'm guessing. Temperature change is the enemy of wood. It was straight when it left NY, a little wobbly when it got to Indiana. So, technically, mother nature caused the wobble, the USPS just helped her out.

Very nice cue, i'm curious as to how the postal service caused a 1mm wobble in such a fine piece of wood. No really, i want to know. If you can convince me, i may even buy it. It really is a nice cue after all.

Exactly why all cues should be shipped Express Mail. For an extra $20 bucks, this beauty would still be straight.

Super cue, BTW. Mason does fantastic work and very quickly earned his reputation for making great players.

Can't argue that point.

Interesting...When you recieved the cue you posted it was in great shape and now 6 weeks later it has a roll..... Looks like it arrived in 3 days or less from when it was shipped..Not to doubt your word but it seems like everyone likes to blame the usps when it was fine when you got it:grin:

Edit: If you dont know when the cue warped then don't assume anything....the cue could have been warped(it was for sale for 8 months in original thread) all along. It wouldn't be the first time a warped cue was sold as straight. How do you know it was straight when it left NY, so you say " thanks to usps" for the wobble and make a claim against them that is disparaging. Maybe the original seller didnt roll it either. If you don't check a cue for roll when you get it immediately get someone who knows what there doing to check for you

Maybe it's different in the USA but I know at CanadaPost even if something is held over a weekend it's never left on a truck outside do to security reasons.Everthing is brought back to the station and reloaded again on Monaday morning.I can't see it being any different in the States. Not saying its not warped a bit but I don't think it's from a mail truck. At that price ,hell who cares.:)

can we just commend the seller for wing honest about the straightness and not worry about why or how? Does it really matter how or why? Are there some part time usps lawyers on here or what? Lol

I believe the seller pointed the finger as to why and how. I also believe some of the forum members that work for the postal service are tired of takin the rap for everything that comes down the road. We make enough mistakes on our own:wink:. JMO of course. And credit is due for the sellers honesty about the condition of the cue. It's still a nice looking cue, mason does nice work.

im interested in the cue ,just dont know how much the condition will effect the cue, still no response for the seller, maybe i will wait till sbe

Yes, I said in my post on January 8th that the cue arrived in great shape. Unfortunately, I don't have a lathe or a pool table to roll it on, so my comment was based on the fact that the cue was in good shape cosmetically. I didn't have a chance to roll it until a couple of days later, so it wouldn't exactly have been ethical for me to hold gh8st responsible for that, would it?

But, if you look at the dates, you'd see the cue was shipped January 3rd, so no, it didn't get to me in three days or less. It took five days.

If you don't doubt my word, then why post this in my thread? The fact is that I'm trying to be honest about the condition of a cue I'm trying to sell. And it would be nice if postal workers and their friends wouldn't post disparaging comments in my for sale thread casting aspersions on my character. The fact is the cue left NY straight and arrived in Indiana with a wobble. If it didn't take five days for the USPS to deliver something that should've gotten to me in two, then there's a good chance that it wouldn't have developed that wobble.

The fact is that it doesn't really matter why the cue developed the wobble, it's that it has one and I included that information in my post.

Thanks for the bump though.

Not that my opinion matters at all, but I played with this cue a little bit tonight, and i couldnt tell it had any wobble at all. If Scott hadnt told me about it, I would have never known. This cue has a very nice resonance to it, the feedback is very good. If you like Mason's work, you better grab this one. If that tiny unnoticable wobble affects anyones shooting, they are far better than me, lol.

The description of the cue states exactly how bad the butt is. It has an approximately 1mm wobble at the joint that, as far as I can tell, doesn't affect the playability at all. This is all in the post, so exactly what would you like me to respond to?

There are no secrets here. The butt has a 1mm wobble at the joint. What else would you like to know?

Apparently, you're not a postal worker...

I don't believe this.
The seller posts a nice MasonH cue with full disclosure on the condition, prices the cue at far below market value (2-shafts), and there is still this bullshit drama.

What a bunch of intelligent cue experts, and where did this weird culture originate from??????????
