The shooter has been found dead of a self inficted gunshot to the head.

A quick question: I heard early on that his girlfriend or former girlfriend was missing. Was she ever located or is she still unaccounted for or was that another instance of poor journslism?

I wish he would have just offed himself without ruining the lives of all those families first. I hope he's burning in hell.

Same old response, well how about the same old question....What's an assault rifle??
How about addressing the real problem, mental health. Makes no difference if it's a school, a pool hall ,or movie theater the only thing all these shootings have in common are mentally unstable murderers. It just happens to be a pool hall (partially) this time.
The shootings have 2 things in common, mentally unstable and guns! I come from a country that doesn’t have gun ownership like the States and we have massively disproportionately less Mass shooting deaths. Now is this because of ease of access to guns or does the US just have more mentally unstable people?
I’m sure you have heard all this before and am genuinely interested to know your thoughts. Australia had a mass shooting, guns were banned and guess what , no more mass shootings! Yes a few crazed knifing incidents but I’d rather a nutter enter a pool room with a knife than a rifle.
I appreciate you will never remove guns from the states but type restrictions and controls can only lead to less of these events surely?

Sorry. It's a hot button topic that needs to be attended to. We need different ideas and all ideas out. Thank you for all responses. I don't think it's helping to be an ostrich. Head in sand. These killing episodes are much more important than my Brunswick table and tip on my Mezz cue. I live 35 miles from Lewiston Me. The guy I played golf with yesterday conducted regular business with a 40 year old man and his 12 year old son who went bowling that night. Both are a statistic. That could be anybody's family. If this can happen in my backyard, it can surely happen in yours. 36 separate episodes in 10 months nationwide. Odds are getting closer to affecting all of us.

The reality of life in this country today is such things (mass shootings) can happen anywhere at any time. There is NO safe place anymore! You can be out to eat in a nice restaurant, shopping in a big mall, or just walking on the street. The really sad thing is that every time this happens, there are more nutcases who get a little more inspired to do it themselves. They also want to go out with a bang, pun intended.

You live in a country without gun ownership and have FEWER mass shootings???? Why would you have any shootings of any kind? Also, what country? So everyone tired of rights knows where to move.

Yikes! I'm not preaching total gun control. I think there should be more responsibility for ownership of a weapon designed for one purpose. Maybe a qualification coarse and a better medical background check could be a start. The person that has been in and out of institutions with violent tendencies maybe isn't a great candidate. The kid that shot up the school at Sandy Hook Conn. had severe mental issues. His parents bought him an ar and the range was good therapy. Didn't work out well. There does tend to be a pattern in a lot of these attacks. I'm sure even hinting this is pissing off some mental heath advocates.
We need to find some middle ground and a better regulatory way or we will totally lose our rights to gun ownership. It can't go on like this.

Garzer. I ain't blaming the gun.. I'm blaming the availability of the gun being in the dip shit's hand. Every gun deserves respect. We need a better governor, I don't mean a person. I mean better back checks, stricter rules for ownership. I'm not a pro scribe. Maybe I missed my point.
The definition of assault rifle doesn't bring back any of those people. Fine line. If you really think a Glock can match a rifle you are not talking from experience, just written rhetoric. Also, hunting deer with a caliber that small is disrespectful to the animal. More wounds than stops. It's like fishing tuna with 20lb test. That gun was made for low recoil. Easy to stay on target. Throw a field of fire and take an adversary out of the conflict. That doesn't mean killl every time.
Been shooting since i was about 8. Always a member of a club growing up, done the reloading thing, shot skeet-trap and also worked firearm retail. Know what i'm talking about. A large-cap. pistol with say three extra mags could have done the same thing. The guy was shooting up close not from 200yds. As for deer hunting, whitetail are a thin skin lightly built animal. A modern 60+gr. .223 bullet drops them like they were hit by lightning. Its a very popular/effective deer round. Wouldn't use it on mulies or elk of course but on whitetail its great.

Very true, Jay.

Something else to consider, I believe, is how many of these mass shootings are being perpetrated by people with known mental issues where some form of intervention should have taken place. I live in CT a state with one of if not the toughest gun ownership laws in the US, made even tougher following the Sandy Hook tragedy. Speaking of which, the mother of the shooter at Sandy Hook watched her son spiraling downward into the abyss of mental illness. He got to the point where he was painting his bedroom windows black and when she took him into town for haircuts he was making those in the salon very uncomfortable. Apparently this mom wanted to have a shared hobby with her son and for some reason that hobby was target shooting. The decision she made not to cut off his access to his guns cost her her life plus a lot of school children and teachers at the school he shot up. Talk about missed opportunity. Man oh man.

The subject case of this thread, the mass shooter in Maine, the warning flags were flying real high. He made a threat against his military unit saying he was gonna shoot them up. He was recently in the hospital for observation for 2 weeks for his deteriorating mental status. He is a gun expert and an instructor. How could it be that there was no intervention by anyone to separate someone like this from their weapons? We shouldn't have to be Monday morning quarterbacking. This was another missed opportunity.

The Uvalde TX shooter, Salvatore Ramos, showed lots of signs of mental instability. He made open threats against women, carried around a dead cat and get this, he was nicknamed "School Shooter" prior ro actually shooting and killing so many at Robb Elementary School. Shouldn't there have been an intervention that could have prevented someone like him from buying a rifle? I think this was another missed opportunity.

If we go back there's plenty more examples (Gabby Gifford, John Lennon, Reagan, etc) where there could have been restrictions place that could have prevented tragedies. Missed opportunities.

Imo, the best we can do is to impose sensible restrictions (OR ACT ON RESTRICTIONS THAT ARE ALREADY IN PLACE) on those who show signs of mental instability that can be turned into violent acts. Enacting new laws that will make it hard(er) for law-abiding citizens to access, own or legally carry guns is an overreach.

Please keep in mind that gang members, thugs, generally bad actors, they don't give a crap about rules. They will *always* have guns and all varieties of them.

All above is jmo.

best,
brian kc

it's also worth noting that the high velocity .22 center fire calibers are used for many different types of hunting, not just deer.

And of course, regardless, the second amendment has absolutely nothing to do with hunting. Something that left often struggles to wrap their heads around..

I believe that there might have been a Walmart involved as well. Not completely sure about that. I think that the suspect is still at large. Hopefully this turd is found, and brought to justice.
By justice, he should be killed during the manhunt and not waste the time and resources or the police, courts and citizens in keeping him alive for a full trial and imprisonment.

That's why as a responsible citizen, you should be prepared. By prepared, I mean armed. I've been carrying since my state issued concealed carry. Thank God I haven't had to use it. But I'm prepared if necessary.

While on the subject, Americans removing God from their lives is the biggest cause of all of or problems. The further we remove ourselves from God, the deeper we slide into the abyss.
