cleary

Honestly, I'm a liar.

I've heard from several people Masters is closing on Nov 30th due to the owner has cancer. Sad for NYC pool. Masters is a great room with good tournaments and action, and the only 24/7 joint in town that I know of.

Gosh, this is TERRIBLE news, both about the owner, as well as for NYC pool. You're right about Masters being a great room, and one of the few 24/7 joints not just in this town, but in a huge surrounding area as well (including outside NYC -- e.g. Westchester and Putnam Counties).

Sad news. I hope the place gets picked up by new owners and reopens. We can all wish, can't we?

Ohhh, that's terrible news! I have been there for the Monday and Wednesday tournaments everytime I come to town. Fun group of people and great competition. Wonder where Ginky is going to move to?

Let's pray the best for the owner and his family. My mom died of liver cancer, so it can be a very painful death and anguish for the family.

Maybe as a show of support, we can organize to meet and patronize Masters. When Broadway Billiards closed, they barely gave any notice.

Yea, only a few weeks til they close. I'll be at the tristate- ABCD next Saturday. I don't go to Masters often, its far for me, but hate to see it go.

Masters is hosting the Tri-State on the weekend of November 20th. If the closing date holds true, then that will be the last time Tri-State will be there.

Sad News.

Well this is Very Sad News for the Family that owns Master Billiards as well as the Pool (billiards Community), it's very Sad that we will lose another Great Pool Room, as everybody knows Our sport is hurting, not enough $ponsors, We as a Family had the opportunity to visit and spend a weekend playing at Master Billiards, we made some Great Friends from the Philippines, without Master Billiards we would never have had the Opportunity to meet such Good Friends. :( :( :(

I heard that the owner is planning on closing down for a month or so to get treatment/surgery for the cancer and then will reopen if all goes well. I wish him well. My mom and my wife's mom both passed away from cancer and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

Who will be competing at Masters tomorrow in the Tri-State?

I'll be there. Will be sad if the room closes for good. I too have had family die of cancer and its rough. A lot rougher than a room closing, but its sad to see rooms go, especially Masters. Open 24/7, tournaments and action. No other room like it in NYC.

Hard to imagine Masters not being there. Word was put out last Wednesday (11/24) that weekly tourneys were moving to BQE Billiards. Hope the treatment goes OK and possibly we see a reopening.

Horrible News

Hands down best pool room in NYC. The place had 2 snooker tables, billiards, and pool pool pool and some more pool.

:( Sad News

I wish the owner well, and I hope he has a speedy recovery.

Are they closing the doors officially tommorrow, Tuesday the 30th?

If so, we should fill this place Tonight!

Last Friday was the last 10-ball tournament at that location. Last Friday, I heard they were calling pool halls all over the city, offering to sell their tables and equipment.

Auctioned

Everything was auctioned off this morning. I was there. If I remember correctly the 2 billiards tables went for about 6-700, 2 Brunswick s at 300 ea and many centennials at $700. One at 750 and 1 crown at 1,100. Sad to watch. I was hoping to steal the ping pong table but it started at my limit and rose to 275.

For those who are missed it, the Friday night 10-ball tournament is now at Paradise Billiards on Thursday nights. Free practice at 6:30PM, Tournament starts at 8:30 PM. Same organizer, same handicap and rules as before.

Where is Paradise Billiards located?

Also, has any other room stepped up to replace either the Monday or Wednesday Night tournament yet?

Very sad to hear they are no more.
