Master Chalk - Flag -vs- Pre-flag?

Part of the reason lead is in a pencil is because of the way it holds on paper.

.

Captain,
Avast, you are off course. There is no lead in pencils, just graphite. You must come up with a different theory if we are going to keep up "the far-fetched-speculation-on-chalk-thread-that-would-never-end." :) :)

I didn't know that! Graphite, hmmmm. When I thought of the pencil, pool chalk analogy, I really thought I had a good one. LOL No wonder Fred didn't reply!

Hey Fred, Maybe they need to add some Graphite!

I was thinking, then how come they are called 'lead pencils'? So I looked up 'lead pencil history'.

In ancient Rome, scribes wrote on papyrus (an early form of paper) with a thin metal rod called a stylus, which left a light but readable mark. Other early styluses were made of lead. Today we still call the core of a pencil the lead even though it is made from nontoxic graphite. Graphite came into widespread use following the discovery of a large graphite deposit in Borrowdale, England in 1564. Graphite left a darker mark than lead, but was so soft and brittle that it required a holder. At first, sticks of graphite were wrapped in string. Later, the graphite was inserted into wooden sticks that had been hollowed-out by hand! The wood-cased pencil was born.

So I'm now back to the opinion that they need to put the lead back in.

Hi Colin,

Thanks for the articles, very interesting! My idea on the chalk is spoken form my Irish point of view. He He He I have two cases of that green chalk you boys are talking about. I use green coz I am Irish.

If you are playing "brain dead" 9-Ball you don't have to worry about the lead in the chalk. If you drink a couple of pints of Guinness with your pool it's a cure all for every thing that "ale's" ya. He He He Oh, the lead content has been fixed by changing dye's.

I recommend Guinness for all here and everywhere. It cures colds when mixed half and half with good beer like Bud or Mick. If you drink one pint straight down it's a great laxative which some who type in these spaces could use. :) With two cases of the green chalk I won't need it anytime soon
but a recipe for it might come in handy while I finish my Guinness. Poster attached for you Colin

Cheers,

"Gremlin"

Cheers Grem,

I do like a beer, but no as much guinness as my hopping buddy in your pic.

In return for your kind toast....here's lookin' at ya with a pic in return:-)

NO NO NO. The only lead contained in a pencil IS IN THE PAINT. As to the medium left onto the paper, that's carbon, i.e. graphite. Not lead albeit bears a closes resemblance to lead itself.

I stopped using Master about 5 years ago. I find it's quality is not as good as it used to be. I switched to Triangle chalk and I recommend it to everybody. It is like master used to be.....

Interesting considering they're both made by Tweeten.

There was a Rumor

There was a Rumor some guy was paying $50.00/Cube for Pre Flag Blue Master Chalk. I wish I could find him, and i would be very will off.....:) :) :) :)
