a friend and myself get together about twice a week to play sets (25 or 50), he is shortstop or A+ speed i am A- or strong B+ in a race to 3 heads up he almost always wins 3 to 2 winner breaking. He gives me 2 on the wire to 5 and i almost always wins with winner breaking.Hes offering me the breaks which i think is to his advantage because i dont get out all the time, and in longer sets to 7 or more i think he will win in the long run as he is the better player. What should i try to get from him so i may still have the edge but is reasonable. This is all on bar box 8 ball

4 balls off the table. J/k, sounds like you need someone to teach you how to play barbox 8-ball. If he's beating you with 2 on the wire to 5. Ask for 3 games. This makes it a hell of a lot harder for him. You can even ask for a ball. Here's how this works; you don't have to shoot in all your balls, you can leave one on the table and shoot the 8 or you can make that last ball and shoot the 8. This is another tough game for him. You can ask for odds. He posts twice as much as you. Now if you win a set, you have enough cash for 2 more sets. There are a lot of ways to even up the game.

spot

drew, he is not winning when i get 2-5 i am. But he does not want to give that spot anymore, and i dont want to play even races to three.

longer races then bud. take 2 on the way to 7. Or 1 game on the way to 4 or 5. But, to be perfectly honest, the weaker player always has a better chance in a shorter race. You could try dropping the bet in a race to 3. Say 3 for 15 instead of 25. I've lost many races to 3 to players I beat regularly. Or if you want to play for more, you could ask for a set on on the wire. Race to 3 sets, race to 3 each set, and you get a set.

tanner

hey tanner, give me 3 to 7 next week and you got game. Do you have the website or do you know the pods for A team in Pierre?

Take one on the wire and the first break racing to three for half your normal amout and see how you /he likes it....:)

Play for $15, take the break only in a race to 3, and break him. Short race, break to control the table, less$$$ to drop his interest, and a plan for you to work!....

good thinking on your part to mix up the game though.

good luck, Gerry

Just how well do you play TP? Rob is an A player and you are giving him 3 to 7 and willing to take the rail? Not knockin anyone, just curious.

I would say that an A player from South Dakota and an A player from Florida or any big state are different in skill level. Rob is a B player and I am just now an A player by South Dakota classification. Money is good, but gambling for me isn't about the money. It is for the pressure to shoot better. I will have to really bare down and shoot my best.
