interesting place to put it. the pool scene is growing there so i expect unknowns making a dent, moreso than in the UK open

my biggest prejudice against balkan players, having played many throughout the years, is that they have a jumpy tendency in their stroke. but then of course there is kaci, half rock half human, who disproves this.

Ummm. The last European Open was in Germany, I believe. I thought that was a multi-year deal. Now it has moved to Bosnia-Herzegovina. And I notice that in the expected players, no Germans are listed.

European Open Pool Championship and Premier League Pool Set for a Thrilling Debut in Sarajevo, March 2025

The World Nineball Tour is proud to announce the debut of two premier events in Bosnia & Herzegovina, in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Sarajevo Canton and Hills Hotel Sarajevo.

The European Open Pool Championship will take place from 11-16 March, live on Sky Sports, Viaplay, and WNT TV, followed by Premier League Pool from 20-27 March. Both events will be held in the breathtaking city of Sarajevo for the first time, marking an exciting new chapter for the World Nineball Tour.

SPECTATOR TICKETS FOR BOTH EVENTS ON SALE SOON

The full broadcast list for both events will be announced soon, ensuring fans worldwide won't miss a moment of the action.

The first Matchroom Major of 2025, the European Open Pool Championship, will feature a 256-player field, including the top 128 professionals from the World Nineball Tour, such as Jayson Shaw, Francisco Sanchez Ruiz, Ko Ping Chung, and Ko Pin Yi. Players from around the world will compete for a $200,000 prize fund, with the champion set to claim an increased top prize of $40,000.

Once again, Matchroom is taking new events to a new country. Matchroom's truly global approach to growing pro pool is a winner in my books.

Matchroom is offering open entries to the European Open to WNT subscribers. The entry fee is $250. With travel costs, the total for someone from the US to play would be about $2000.

Wow, this is just a month away.

Sadly, many like me only know of the bad times in Sarajevo. How vividly we recall the heartbreaking images of the Bosnian wars of the early 1990s. It was, perhaps, the only time that Sarajevo was front and center on American news. The European Open will help me and others to focus on and appreciate the Sarajevo of today, and I hope it is a big success.

This is going to be great! The Matchroom majors are almost upon us. Let the games begin.

You must remember the Olympics, no?

I first learned about Sarajevo during the 1984 winter Olympics. Probably why the devastation of the war had as much impact as it did on me, remembering what the city was like (on TV) less than a decade earlier. Very beautiful in the winter.

In any case, Frazer indicated MR tried to schedule the event in same venue in Germany initially. Yet MR couldn't work out the right date. Hence the switch.

Yes, well said. Sadly, the last images many of us have etched in our memories are the gloomy ones of the early 1990s.

Anyone travelling to Helsinki Taom Open, give me a shout and I can show around the city.

i hear it's rather nice now. a pool friend of mine was a sniper in sarajevo for the bosnian side. 600 speed player and a great dude. all that war stuff is way in the past for most of the people there. sarajevo is also fairly close (3-4 hours) to dubronik and split, which are really cool mediterranean cities.

Added the Morocco Open. No event listed after May at this point.
