Matchroom/U.S. Open is leaving Atlantic City

“Drenalin70” up above suggested Indianapolis, and I sort of smirked to myself. But I have reconsidered. There’s an excellent international airport, and the airport is extremely close to the middle of the city with a very easy twenty-minute drive. There is a superb convention center downtown. It has successfully hosted The Super Bowl, I believe. It is a major center for amateur sports, such as the NCAA swimming finals. There are great restaurants in every price range. There is a sports book five blocks from the convention center. There’s a casino and solid race track in Shelbyville, which is an easy forty minutes to the east. There’s jazz. It is possible to walk around downtown relatively safe. Unlike places such as Houston and DFW you wouldn’t feel overwhelmed with the size. You could get around. The natives are friendly. And Indy is accustomed to dealing with events which dwarf any minuscule pool tournament, for instance NCAA Regionals in basketball, the 500 race, and, I believe, Comicon.
Damn dude, why don’t you post more often?!?

Good post Stu. Interesting that not one person mentioned Los Angeles. Matchroom depends quite a bit on their live gate and there is no city that would bring in a larger audience than L.A. And that's a fact Jack! We've got over 15 million people within a fifty mile radius and lots of them are pool players and fans. Every event we ever produced out here had standing room only crowds. I could easily see filling an arena seating 2,500 to 3,000 fans, and that's a low estimate. If MR ever staged an event here they would be back for sure.
Maybe at a convention center in conjunction with an expo. Got two in the area right?

Still TBA for the new location, I guess. Here's an influencer's view on Atlantic City. Sounds like it's time to roll up the sidewalks.

No, although I don't know all their names, one of the semifinals and the final were refereed by Matchroom's referees. American Jon Leyman refereed one of the semifinals, too.

On the other hand, many of the area referees used for the first four days (until 16 were left) were American referees. Each area referee was responsible for four tables, officiating (on player demand) and racking the balls for all four of the matches.
That's one refereeing situation I would not enjoy.
Bending over and racking for 4 tables, for 8 hrs or more.
UGH!
I think the players opponents should rack/template, save a TON of time.

Yes, I've been to Dallas, Texas in the summer and it was 110 degrees. I think Houston tends to be even worse and is more humid. If the US Open goes to Texas, I hope it will return to its traditional time slot of October.

Still, I'm fine with anywhere in Texas if it is important to Matchroom to establish a presence there.
Late October or the first week of November is best in Texas.

Living in Jersey most of my life and just seeing the decline of that city in the past 25 years. Its not just a single thing wrong with the whole town we have several factors that have brought it down

It was nice the last few years having all these major events happening close to home. But after seeing how the last us open was ran. I didn’t think pool was lasting that much longer in town. And after seeing SBE I don’t think I’m ever going to a pool event again
