I'm not sure of that one Purdman. I'm sure he does at times, but I'm sure he also has partners.

He came in Fast Eddie's in Spring last winter (8 Ball Rat was with me and saw him) and gave up a little too much weight to a local player (plays/gambles real good) for some, I think, $200 races to 5. He had a group of guys with him. He played real good, was a gentleman, but couldn't get there with that particular game. He just gave up too much. I think VARick was there too. Not sure how it turned out as I left - but we watched them play for a while.

Heard he gave Pooky the 7 ball recently and beat him for an undisclosed sum. That is pretty darn strong! I can't verify that though. Just pool grapevine talk as of right now.

Matt, they broke even if it's the match I think it is (with a short Albanian player whose name I can never pronounce correctly?) The fact that Clatterback came back when he was obviously out of stroke was impressive. Everybody looks great when they're stringing racks together, but the really good players know how to win when they're struggling. Kind of like your man Varner, grinding through an off night like a bulldog that won't let go.

The thing I like about Clatterbuck's patterns is that he plays "short" position very well, getting close to the next ball at the risk of occassionally overrunning the angle a bit. Very different from the style of Pooky, which is wide open, more entertaining to watch, and possibly less effective in the long run. Needless to say, they're both great players.

Does he go by 'Cutty'. I believe I played him at a planet tourney in VA. Pookie ended up beating Danny Green to win it. He was a nice guy as I recall.

No, I think 'Cutty' is Brian O'Donnell, who is also a very good player when he's active. Doesn't play as much as he used to, from what I hear.

Oh, ok. Yeah, I left before they were done, but the Albanian was beating him handily with that spot. I'm glad to hear that Matt broke even, because it took some heart to give up that much weight without knowing your opponent. Plus, Matt was on a table that is really tough if you've never played on it. Real tough.

Yeah, good old table 16 with the those tight pockets that run-out players love so much, LOL. It did look like a bad game for Clatterbuck those first two sets.

Cutty had seriously injured his shoulder on the job a couple of years ago and has practically given up pool, from what I understand.

I think the Albanian player might be Ilir Jaho.

Cutty still plays, but not as much nor as good as he used to play.
I saw him at a local memorial tournament earlier this year.
IIRC, he has a wife and family now. Pool is no longer a big priority for him.

Well i dont know, nor have i seen Matt Clatterbuck shoot.. I was hoping he was going to show at the VA open but didnt. I spoke to a guy who knows matt, and this guy has gamble all over him..he says Matt plays jam up. Well i will tell you that i have met, talked, and watched Mike Fuller play at Babinoes in NC (I know i spelled that wrong) And Mike can shoot his ass off..he would have to give me the 3 out and the bust and he has to shoot with a toothpic and i would advise any of my friends to back me. his dad peaches shoot jam up to..They are two of the nices guys you can talk to ...it would be a hell of match up Clatterbuck and mike

Really...you think.. in which direction..like i said i know Mike can shoot but i havent seen Matt but wow with two names like that and it being lopsided means someone shoots light out

My guess is that he thinks it would be lopsided Matt's way.

WOW...if he can give mike fuller weight then i want no part of Matt dear god can some one shoot that good to give the caliber of player that Mike is weight

I've got Mike on speed dial.

If Matt would like a couple or three hundred being matched be a few other people's money, I would like to see Fuller and Matt tangle. Mike breaks the balls and plays pretty smart. Not thousands, but hundreds could Matt win from us locals.

I can name and provide players who will give BOTH Mike and Clatterbuck weight!! And they are not even champions yet!!

You will have that chance at the Open which is coming up pretty soon.
We can have Mike and Clatterbuck play these kids and we can have a little wager along the side. How about it?
