I know that the #1 problem is with getting more money for the players and more mainstream fans is sponsorship. It seems most are looking for that one big national sponsor that will probably never come.

Wouldn’t it be better to set up 8 pro leagues with 6-8 teams and 4-6 players on each team around the country? At the end of the season the teams could travel for play-offs with the other top teams in the other leagues for the national title. This would cut down on a lot of the travel during the year and only need a few local sponsors for the teams until the play-offs. A big problem is that the US is so huge and travel and lodging today cost a lot.

I think the local media would publish the standings being that they are local teams so the fans could follow them. I believe most of the other team sports started this way. Johnnyt
 
Regardless of how it's done the main thing you need is someone or a group with deep pockets who is willing to take big losses until they can start making a profit. You would have to have a nation wide tour that went to all 50 states plus maybe some international stops. The players would have to be exclusive to that tour and be paid a set salary like in other sports. Now a pool player could take their chances winning in random events they enter or they could take a salary of $100,000 a year that was guaranteed. Of course this would all cost tons of money and might never become profitable. The team idea could also be down this way and the different team owners would only be responsible for paying their teams salaries and travel expenses so the financial burden would not be left to one person alone.

I remember when they had the North versus the South pool exhibition. I cannot remember what it was called, but I think Fury sponsored it. It kind of gave one a team spirit of sorts! :smile:
 
I was thinking a 2v2 scotch doubles of SVB and dennis hatch vs bustamante and efren reyes for TAR 21 (?)
 
Its a great idea if there wasn't so much infrastructure already in the pool community, meaning scattered tournaments with worthwhile paydays.

I think the pros could do more with technology, like internet streaming, recording pre-game and post-game interviews like reality tv. The WPBA I thought might do it, but the kept player profiles to text and single picture format. Maybe the ABP will do it, it be great to have players produce video intros and see the changes over the years.

The team concept definitely has merit. The Mosconi Cup is perhaps the most exciting event in pool, imo.
 
I have been saying this on this forum for a while. Pool players show no emotion or excitement AT ALL until they have won the tournament. UNLESS they are on a team. Then they have someone to celebrate with and get all jacked up with every game and every nice shot.
 
IMO...

Most of the folks that would make the cut can't commit to a weekend tourney a month out.
