Having been around the pool gambling crowd for nearly 45 years, I think I can safely say that Keith McCready was and still is one of the most talented, fearless people to ever play the game. Keith was nice enough to give my book a plug at onepocket.org that was not solicited or asked for in any way and I greatly appreciate the plug coming from one of pool's most recognizable players, whom I've had the pleasure of playing with and against. Thanks a million Keith, and God Bless.....Hump :) :p :)

I am a fan of Keith's also and a friend. His game is second to none. Great with a crowd, gets that personality going and it's all good.

Yeah, I agree, but how do you get him to come SOUTH ?

Or across the water to the UK?

Keith is a tremendous asset to the game right now (esp since he seems to be shooting 'em pretty straight), perhaps the governing bodies in the US should be looking at ways they can use his charisma to fight the good fight?

Certainly someone should have given him an all-expenses paid trip to Taiwan this year.

$$$$$$$

I suspect Keith like most pool players isn't rolling in dough. If you want him to come you've got to make it worth his while. Man does not live by bread along, but it is a minimum requirement.

I agree with the statements of others. Keith is one of the best, especially when in his prime. Pool sorely needs more people like him if it is ever going to make it as a spectator sport. Not too many Keiths, you need straight men too.

I really miss the Old South, Hump, and hope to get there soon. I try to bring my best game with me every time I play, but I don't get to shoot as much as I'd like these days. Catscradle is right. It's an expensive undertaking to go to one of these events, and I try to go to every one I'm able to. Reading your book sure brought a smile to my face!

Got to take my hat off to the guys who make it happen for a mutt like me. I'm gearing up for the Open, just like the rest of yous here, and win or lose, I'm grateful to just get a chance to play, but I couldn't even get there if it wasn't for efforts of these folks. Without them, my pool world wouldn't shine one bit!

Another great player who will be a part of the history books. Always a pleasure to watch you play. Sam

One of the all-time pool greats- definitely. To use the old adage: He has forgotten more about pool that most of us will ever know. And, can still give most of us a dose, if we wanna step up!

Yes, Keith is a strong player but alas like all the great ones the younger stronger guys will soon catch up and overrun him.
It is a natrual evolition just as he overran the greats of his day.
Has Keith been inducted into the pool players hall of fame yet?
It can only be a matter of time.
Keep strok'n Keith cause I have the faith you still got a lot of game left in Ya.
If those younger guys want it let them take it fighting tooth and nail from Ya.

Having first laid eyes on KM in one of the weirdest pool rooms around
( Lynns Cash and Carry in Eufaula AL) he has been a favorite.
There was more jaw jacking going on than shooting with
KM, Bobby Jones, Joe Lawrence, Jr. Goff, Ronnie Yarborough, Archer
and a slew of others going. It was a very fun place to be.
They kept a pay ball game going on the snooker table at all times
with plenty of trash talking going on.
Not sure who the next KM might be but like Willee said there will be another
top player with favor to come around one day. Until then we have KM
and that aint to bad.

Exactly, Frankncali, many people have jumped on this horse and ridden him to the wining payoff but KM is not ready for the pasture yet. Any young buck that wants to break him down has a formitable task facing them. There is a lot of game left in that old horse and he aint giving it up easy. They are gonna half to belly up to the bar and take it from him fighting all the way.

Thoug I know he's a legend, I have only vague knowledge of the specifics of Keith's success as a professional, but would like to know more. Can anyone give me a sense of how many major titles he has won and what his greatest accomplishments are as a professional?

Keith was never about Tournaments he was always about the $$$$$. I've seen him offer the 7 to a room full of Pro's and semi-pros and there were no takers. One Sunday at HT in Bellflower, Calif both he and Efren were playing in the weekly Sunday tournament. All of a sudden Keith walked over to Efrens table and layed down a grand and said "let's play", Efren smiled, excused himself from the match he was in the middle of and off they went to an empty table. I would pay to watch either one of them play, talk about 2 different personalities! HT has never been as much fun since you left Keith.

There is a biography being worked on, be patient, hopefully it will be as colorful as his life and personality. If it is, it will be one heck of a read.

BTW, if you haven't read Gerald's book "Green Felt Jungle" and you like to read at all I'd suggest you pick it up. Mark Twain doesn't need to worry about being bumped off the library shelves by it, but it is a good read.
