McDermott bumper

The newer McDermott bumpers don't use a screw like the older ones - at least the one I'm looking at. It seems to be molded to the butt and I can't even get a flathead under the bumper. Does anyone have any good ideas on how to remove one of these? Thanks, Larry.

Mcdermott makes a plyers type tool, that pops them right out. It can be gotten out if you grip the bumper with plyers & pry up on the edge of the bumper. HOWEVER you will take the chance of chipping the butt cap...JER

Thats what I am worrying about. I even tried putting some leather between the plyers and the bumper so it wouldn't harm the bumper but couldn't get a good grip like that. So you are saying that it is NOT screwed in - it will pop out with the right "persuasion" ;-).
Thanks, Larry.

The right tool is the best. With it, the bumper just pops out because it is pressure fitted. I'm sure someone has come up with a way to get them out without using the tool made for it , but most alternative ways are risky.

I just wrap both hands around the cue with both thumbs on one side of the bumper and push.

Easiest way to do it without the tool. Use a towel around the bumper to protect it, then grip it with a visegrip, and you can pop it right out. May take a side to side pull...... but it will pop right out.
