I Just received a new McDermott I/2 shaft and the ferrule is only 1/4 of an inch long. I have seen pics of some others and they seem to have a longer ferrule. Is this something new? Do the different I shafts have different ferrule lengths?

I have the I/1 and it sure isn't a short ferrule. It's actually longer than most ferrules and just short of a Meucci ferrule in length.

I doubt it???

1/4" I'm having a tough time believing that specification. Suggest you show
us a photo.

hey i have a mcdermott cue and was interested in that shaft. i know this is a lil bit off the main topic of this thread but can you give your opinion of this shaft. is it what the make it sound to be and worth the amount of money that they ask?
thank you all

I do not have access to a camera for pics. The length is 1/4 inch long, and that is why I asked for feedback from other members. It seems very strange and I guess I will place a call to McDermott in the morning. and maybe they can shed some light on the subject.
Thanks for the replies to all.

that would make the ferrule the size of the predator Z shaft.........is it really that small?

There is absolutely NOTHING bad about a 1/4" ferrule. The only real purpose of a ferrule is to protect the end of the shaft. Actually, the smaller the better -- less deflection, therefore less cue ball squirt.

Hello,
I also found it very strange when I got my I2 shaft. I read somewhere on the forums that the I2 ferrule was a little longer than the 314 ferrule, but when I got it it was only about a 1/4" long! Anyway, here are the pics of my shaft.

The above picture is kind of hard to see but it is an I2.

Thanks, Asgar

It certainly looks like they made a design change. I saw one of the first I-2's and they were about 3/4 inch long. The I-3 was always very short at about 1/4 inch. These new I-2's probably deflect the cue ball a bit less than the first I-2's.

I just got my I-2. However I received the 1" ferulle as well. Has anyone shot with both. Is the amount of deflection noticeable between the two?
