McDermott shafts - i-2?

Uhm... actually when I had it tooled, I didn't suspect anything wrong. It was only when I read the foam was short, that I said mine was longer. I mean, the shaft plays well. And the difference in ferrules is even true. I honestly don't believe the Predator quality is a 100% under control. I mean, I'm not going to toss away 250 dollars to bust a new shaft to prove a point. I do think you can find pictures of the foam on the internet easily.

I'm not about to do your search for you when I can look at 100s of Predator shafts everyday, in person.
There is a shaft that is foam filled but it's not a Predator.
Maybe you're just confused.
 
I didn't say foam filled, about 10 inches on my own.
Check the second pic here (http://www.kendocues.com/Websted/314.html). The heart of that proves there is foam. I'm just saying mine was longer. Believe it or not, I saw it with my own eyes. I don't want beef over this, you saw one thing, I saw another. All I know is that the Predator quality isn't persistent.
 
the pic you showed proves nothing. it just shows a foam cap, which is already acknowledged. like KJ said, this foam and predator thing is a weird urban myth that has somehow grown and grown. predator has demo cutaways of their own shafts which you can see in their booths and cross section pics on the web, which clearly show no foam other than a small cap. and no hard evidence or pics of a foam filled bore exist, despite the claims. i don't know what you saw, but this foam thing is a myth.

some of the ob shafts do have a foam filled core though.

you are right that they have used a couple different ferrules. the first gen used isoplast. the second gen first used titan and then they switched to something called maxlite.
 
Yeah that's what I meant, the pic just proves there is foam.
On the shaft I had fixed, the foam was about 10 inches... that's not something I read here or on any board. I mean I saw it. But maybe my shaft was a knockoff...??? I dunno, but I know what I saw. I'm not a lyer, I mean when you have a shaft fixed... you just don't always think about bringing a camera along. Perhaps a cuemaker does that in such cases. But I went there to have my shaft fixed.

You state that the foam goes 10" deep and that you saw this.
How did you see this???
Do you have x-ray vision or did you split the shaft apart?
You've stated several times that the foam went 10" deep. How were you able to measure this?
How were you able to see any foam at all without the ferrule being removed?

The hollow of a Predator shaft is 5" deep in a single step configuration;
.285" down to .250".
The only foam is the 'cap' to the hollow which is 1/16" thick. Far from 10".
That is what you are referring to in your link to my associate Kent's website.

My point of contention is the continuation of myth and mis-information that in reality

I take great pride in my association with Predator and I believe in their product.
You could say that I know them inside out. I happen to feel that I'm obliged to
correct inaccuracies regarding Predator shafts whenever they are presented.

I said I had it tooled. The shaft had a crack in it. It has been filled with a large tenon. So when I say I saw it, I saw it.
 
I've had Predator shafts opened up,and yes there was some type of foam or filler on the old shafts and the new.My buddy here in Canada does the fixings for Predator cues and have seen hundreds of Predator shafts and they all had a filler or foam shavings of some sort,but not 10 inches down.OB Shafts are packed to the brim with filler.Takecare

I'm not interested in 2nd or 3rd hand information and I don't care if your
cue-maker is the Pope. One of you is wrong.
 
Predator has gone to the extent of having a few of their shafts segment-milled
for the purpose of showing the buying public just what is on the inside of their shafts.
Look closely; no foam filling.
Notice also the 5" hollow immediately below the ferrule. Again, no foam.
These are standard production shafts, pulled at random and subjected to the milling process.
Check these out for yourself at an authorized Predator dealer near you.

From this point forward, all claims of foam filling in a Predator shaft will be
immediately linked to this thread so the claimant may substantiate (or not), their claim.
Let's keep it real kids.

Interesting photos. The shaft looks just like mine, which is custom fitted to a Pechauer. Anyway, my shaft has what looks like a split in it - this hasn't caused a problem in the 6 months or so I've had it, but the split has now caused the ferrule to crack, so it will need replacing. As my shaft has been fitted by Pechauer, I'm not keen for Predator to just send me a replacement shaft, as this will affect the balance, fit and probably look of the cue too. Is it possible for predator to remove the cracked part of the my shaft, and replace it with new wood?
 
Since Pechauer provided the shaft, contact them for replacement.
If your satisfaction isn't met with that approach, contact Rick at Seyberts.
He may be able to help.
 
thanks KJ for posting those pics!!! those were the cutaways that I had mentioned earlier....predator shows that cutaway model in their booths at shows. glad to finally have a pic of it! maybe the foam people will now be inspired to show their evidence too, hehe!

Hi KJ
I use to get calls asking if there was some sought of rod in the front of the Predator because of how the picture looked on their web site, I told them they were confusing empty space with the color chart in their mind. Just because they saw grey doesn't mean it's really grey.

I do know that Seyberts works closely with Pechauer on some special shaft projects and
because of this relationship, Seyberts may be in a position to assist you in this matter.
I'm not fully aware of your particular circumstances but both a split shaft and a cracked
ferrule are warranty issues. Once everything is sorted-out, Predator may cover this for you.
A toll-free call to Seyberts (877.314.2837) will take the worry out of wondering.

No crystal ball needed.
To the best of my knowledge, there are only two places where these shafts can be obtained.
Predator themselves doesn't make a true-matching shaft for the Pechauer Pro series.
I make them for Seyberts and Pechauer makes them for themselves.
If your shaft is exactly 29" long, Pechauer made it.
If your shaft is 29-1/8" long, I made it.
Other than that, they are identical in every respect.
 
It's 29" exactly, so you're off the hook. :D

I'll contact seyberts and pechauer about it. I've found in the past both companies are great to deal with, so I'm hoping they'll be able to sort me out with a replacement or repair.
