MD Promotions sponsor cue

wow that sucks..

but i have to say.. thats a very nice cue Mike! pity it went to the wrong hands :(

My guess is this is what happens to every cue won on a raffle, the guy wins it sells it for a small fraction of what its worth and gives the cues the reputation for selling cheap.

Another example of no good deed goes unpunished.

Havind said all this.Your cue is really nice looking,I like that design, and have heard my friend Mike Cochran,no slouch in cue making, say very high praises about you and your cues.

Best wishes

DEAN

I know it's usually the practice and destiny of raffle cues, Maybe I'm getting a little short fused in my POPS years. Mike Cochran is aces in my book, I'm a better person for having a friend like him.

The term Scum of the earth comes to mind!

Beautiful cue! You should have expected it. I too have heard only great things about you and your cues.
Nick :)

Someone asked if I felt that way about raffle cues here, The answer is NO, because raffle cues here have usually been bought. One of the problems with this sport is, it's always a one sided coin where Cue makers are concerned. A little History lesson for some.
The great State of CT. 2 years running, I gave a cue so the proceeds would go to the Bradley children's hospital, Cue brought 6 to 7 hundred for the kids. Calcutta's close to 5 G's, kids got none of that.
Tournament in Mass, few years back, 50/50 raffle with house, you know 50 for me, 50 for them. Cue brought in 1800, house kept everything. NICE JOB @holes. Joss tour, which is a great tour and Dan Janes and his family step up and give a cue for every single tournament. WOW! added incentive to the pool rooms was if they added 3000 they got a 1000 cue from one of the other sponsors, Webb, Cameron, Samsara and Zinzola. Use to be 700 cue but that was changed and not by the Cue makers BTW. We all give (3) cues per season. The economy changes, no more smoking in pool rooms, the rooms add less money, except for Snookers in Prov. R.I. Snookers still finds a way to give. They all still get the incentive cues and some of those are finding their way to eBay by the room owners, WHY! It's your pool room, sell the cue on a layaway plan to someone who plays out of your room and will enjoy it. A couple of so-called open players, Free cues with the agreement, if they sell the cues, Cue maker gets half, WHERE did they end up, Local porn shop from them, Cue maker gets nothing cause the players claimed the cues got stolen, BELIEVABLE, Nice try. That story gets real old. Yup, I'm getting older, with help of glasses, I can still read. and the equation is still the same. If I didn't love this sport, I wouldn't complain. It's not just me.

I was there for the first day of the tournament when the tickets were being sold. The cue made a big splash everyone loved it and was probably won by the only person in the room who would put it up on ebay. I tried my best to win it honest I did lol. Even though I am trying to get a cue (none of the trying is your fault by the way all me and money lol) from you I would have loved to have won that one also.

You do great things for this game and always have. I have always been amazed by the amount of work you put into every cue and specially every cue that is given away. You have no idea how many times I have said WOW what a great cue cant beleive he gave that away for nothing. It just shows the love you have for your work and the love you have for the game itself.

I do understand your motivation here, I do understand your reasoning and agree with both. But one bad apple in the room (on this particular case) ruined it for all. I say out with raffles lol and in with something like attendance based incentives. For years I have seen cues going to the best players in the room, but they may only show up in half the tournaments with 2/3 of those and get the cue. Why not do something like for every time you show up to a tournament you get so many chances and at the end of the year have the drawing or something. So the more you show up the more chances you get. I dont know just a thought.

Mike your a great guy and a great cue maker and one of the best sponsors in the industry. Please dont let this sour you on the game or the people who really appreciate you and everything you do. Because we are out there and do appreciate it just remember that and to hell with the rest of them.

You are getting "old" buddy.........:D

I have always believed in supporting pool the best I can, I have given cues away for the past 14 years. So here's my solution for the future because it is the age of the Internet. Starting the season of 2010 and 2011, I will still be supporting pool but even better, I will start giving back to the people who have supported me and let their testament on the forums be my advertising.

Hay Mike

You sell the tickets. You collect the money. You donate to your charity. You give the owner thier share if the refuse to donate by check for cash to your charity.
As tickets sell take names to return money if enough tickets are not sold.
If not, don't do it. If there is a way to be taken advantage of , it can happen.
Be proactive. Any protesters are probably seeing the fact up front that they will no longer be able to rob you and the kindness you show to your choice of charities.
Good luck,

Nick :)

Thank you Sir, I probably over did it, seems to be that time of the month scenario in which case, it's flowing HEAVY

Mike, don't let the idiots bother you. Some of us will kill for one of your cues. Probably pass it on down to our kids. You make one of the sweetest hitting cues ever. I know, i played with Southwest, Richard Black, Schon, Meucci, & many others. You have also been a tireless guardian of the game and a centerpiece to RI pool scene. Keep up the good work & I will catch you at Snookems.

Steve K.
