Memberships mainly for discounts?

I am curious as to how many of you have ever or currently join pool leagues simply because of the discounts available to members. It is supporting the sport/game even without playing it publically. It seems to me that if you join Cue Sports International as an associate member it makes you a member of the BCAPL even if one is not available in your area. You could compete in national tournaments but even if you did not you are eligible for the Discounts such as the $250 off the purchase of a Diamond pool table. That alone is ten times the cost of a yearly membership. The APA offers 10 % off purchases at Seyberts. Therefore if you purchase $300 of stuff at Seyberts you will get $30 off your purchase which is more then the annual membership as well. That is only two examples and there are several others that could be made.Especially if your working on building a game room, man cave, pool room of your own.

I wouldn't join any organization just for the discount because most of my purchases are items that don't normally qualify for a discounter aren't offered by a seller that offers any.

Can you send me the link to Cue Sport International granting membership to BCAPL? I play in a CSI & BCA sanctioned league, and have to pay membership dues to both.

Personally, I don't see how it supports the sport and would never join a league just for a discount.

The way I see it such discounts just jack up the prices for everybody else, in other words the majority.

How many of those stupid discount cards to you have on your key chain?:grin-square:

It's like the drug subsidy for Europe. People in the US pay exorbitantly high drug costs in great part because of the deep discounts negotiated by European countries.

Does the Seybert's discount apply to their sale and clearance items as well?

I don't know for sure if you can combine discounts like that at Seyberts but when it comes time for checkout there is a box for Promo Code I would try putting APARULES in that box and see if it helps.

I cannot understand why a person would not want to get a discounted rate on something they would be purchasing. To make a purchase of a membership in order to get discounted pricing happens all the time here in the USA. We have membership warehouses such as Sam's Club, BJ's Wholesale warehouse and Costco come to mind. The retailers are already marking up all the prices as it is without the existence of membership discounts. For example you could make a purchase at Seyberts of an Aramith Tournament value pack and pay $ 331.21 Or you could pay $ 298.09 for the same set just because your a member of the APA, If you prefer to pay their full price that is your option. Even if you don't like the APA it is still one of the largest amature pool groups in this country therefore your membership fees still help them to promote pool to others. Honestly I don't see any negatives of membership for discounts. Distributers and Manufacturers offer the discounts because they know their product are very niche and they want as many players as they can to buy from them.

Seyberts gets exposure on the APA site and provides a discount for the members. It's usually advertising without a cash outlay. It costs the company 5% of each actual sale (when purchasers remember to put in the code). APARULES is 5%, not a 10% discount. I think these type of discounts have been around forever and may only increase in numbers. It's very hard to figure out where to spend ad dollars and you can waste a lot of money scattering it around.
