Memorial Day on AzBilliards

I was in the Army cold weather special forces. Two weeks after I discharged my whole battalion shipped to VN. Not many made it back. Every Memorial Day I think back to 65 and think I was very lucky. Thanks everyone for their service past and present. Freedom is not free but it is worth the fighting for. Johnnyt
 
When I was in my late teens I visited Arlington. I knew that there were a lot of graves of our fallen there but knowing of it and seeing it are two very different things. Ever since that day I find myself feeling unworthy at times of the freedom that these men and women have given their lives for.

To all who have served this great nation, thank you for my freedom.
 
Served in Vietnam 1967-68
Lost quite a few friends and I will remember them forever. The oldest was only 28 and at the time, he really seemed old...

Little know fact, Memorial Day was first honored for the Civil War soldiers lost in battle.

My mother and father are buried at Arlington National Cemetery. Each Memorial Day, an American flag is set by every single grave in all military cemeteries around the country.

I'm going over today to visit my parents' grave. I didn't go yesterday becuase, from previous experience, it would have been darn near impossible to get into Arlington National Cemetery. I have a pass to get in, so I get "waved" through when I drive up. Others have to go to the Visitors Center.

This was my Fire Team Leader in Nam. It took years to get over the guilt of surviving. Every year about this time I think of him. Michael Sanchez lived in Dallas, TX but I never found anyone who was related to him in my searches.

I've even posted a memory of him on one of the Cyber Memorials but maybe he didn't have any brothers or sisters. He was only 20 when he died so, he like me at that time, wasn't married.

They got my Squad Leader as well and many others.
 
Fair winds and following seas to all my fellow Navy vets. I served 21 & a half years in Naval aviation. Was a Chief Petty Officer (E-7) upon retirement. Happy Memorial Day to all those who served and to those who laid down their lives serving God and Country.
 
I usually just browse the forum but on this occasion I decided to actually post something.

I can't bring myself to say "Happy" Memorial Day but what I will say is: Thankful Memorial Day. To my brothers and close friends I have lost, you're not forgotten for you will always be in my heart and thoughts. Today is a day to rejoice and remember our fallen brothers n sisters.

This video is in remembrance of CPL Casey Zylman, one of the most amazing men I have ever known. Miss you brother.
