Men vs Women at pool

Well? I'll believe it when I see it. You can get cues down to 14 ounces, yet no woman can break like this as far as I know.
You are taking an anomaly player and comparing them to an entire gender.

If you compare larry to those of us here at az how many of us can break like that ? I sure as hell can't.

Given we live in a society where women only gained the right to vote 100 years ago and have only been welcomed to the workforce 50 years ago. Jean Balukas was pushed away from being able to compete with men in our lifetime. I think we are a long ways off before we can start sussing out what is a societal construct vs. biological.
I tend to agree.

This is heavily politicized and I think that's too bad. I think 'not enough data, too early' is the only reasonable conclusion at this point. When it goes from logic to ideology seems to be when people start drawing conclusions one way or the other, i.e. insisting that it is either certain or impossible that genders totally homogenize. I find it interesting and just hope in the end more people are more fulfilled with their lives in the future than in the past.

To the topic at hand I only know that I root for all players who pursue high level pool. I love this game in part because it brings people from all ages, races, genders, and other walks of life together. We all speak a common language in our love of this game.

She said something that her fan base, largely conservative, didn't like and they worked to get the group cancelled.

Many of those same people today decry "cancel culture" at every opportunity.

They only decry when cancel culture cancels something they like, but rally to its side when it cancels something they don't like !

This is pure hypocrisy ! at its <ahem> finest !

Siming Chen is an anomaly also. From what I've seen she has the best break of all the female pros. Most of the others don't come close.

Even if 90% of people that take pool seriously are men shouldn't that mean 3 of the top 30 are women? There has to be other factors.

In the rooms where I have played not even 1% of the players are women who play seriously. Seriously: works frequently on improvement. Social play does not count.

Yes, same. It's not just participation that matters but also the type of participation. I can almost count on one hand the number of women I've seen in the pool room practicing on their own over the years.

No, counter example, as a race the Jewish population is well underrepresented compared to other races. Yet in Nobel prizes they are at the top of all races.

You logic holds near the mean of the distribution curve, but not at its extremities.

Yep, same thing for sports, hockey is almost all white, baseball has a lot more Latinos than other sports like basketball or football, pool is mostly men. A lot of areas don't represent the actual distribution of the races or sexes. Which is something politicians and activists don't get. Just because there are 100 men and 100 women in a building does not mean that you need to have 10 men and 10 women be janitors, 10 men and 10 women be programmers, 10 men and 10 women be managers. If there are 100 women playing and 1000 men that does not mean that 1/10th of the pro players should be women, it all has to do with desire and work to actually do the thing.

They are messing this up in school even, if there is not an even participation in advanced programs they are actually canceling programs.

with the right laws thats how it will be soon

The cause of the distribution needs to shift. Attracting younger players, might mean offering different amenities in pool halls.

Which crowd can save pool? women, teenagers or more guys?

It is not that the (smart ones at least) don't get the subtly, it is that their electorate would not appreciate hearing that those distinctions even exist !!

For example:: minimum wage: I happen to have relatives that live in rural SE Kansas where at $15/hr and you can pretty much live very high on the hog, yet $15/hr in New York City is close to starvation wages. A single minimum wage simply does not make sense !
