I don't thinks pigs are going to fly. So yeah, SVB will be on Team Mosconi (-:i really doubt MR minds if svb skips a tour stop. plus, he's automatic for mosconi in terms of ranking points for the foreseeable future. it's not even close. even if tyler won the hanoi and lucas won the philippines open (and pigs can fly etc), shane is automatic.
team europe is more interesting this year with a couple rookies in top 5. hopefully niels will get on the team, he's snatched some points lately

The real question is, who besides SVB and Gorst? Sky, Oscar or Billie would have to get very far in Peri/Hanoi to pass Styer.
Team World is more interesting. I personally would be happy to see someone other than Shane in the Reyes , but MR might get more viewers with SVB in it. And maybe he would enjoy it more surrounded by better players.
As for Team Europe, Niels is highly unlikely to make it on points. He skipped Hanoi last year, but I think he will go this time around.
I think he would be a great wild card, though. One last hurrah before he ages out. Just a great ambassador for the game.

MR/WNT has to come to see itself as bigger than any one player. Let players play where they want. It's up to MR to make their own events must-go.
Watch out Lots of pop ups/redirects on this linkNot thread related, but Jayson Shaw has had a tough time at home. Literally.
I replaced the old link with a new one that should be less problematic.Watch out Lots of pop ups/redirects on this link
Oscar said on the Boomer and Freezer show he is unlikely to attend Peri/Hanoi and repeated his unwillingness to chase Mosconi points. Did indicate he might go to the Philippines Open.if billy is on the team this year it's solely because of friendship.. oscar played good in the US open but doesn't travel much?

He talked a bit about his exclusion from last year's team, and as usual, he took the classy route.
I know we are just talking about the fifth player on the team, but Oscar is the better choice. Not a big fan of player captains making the pick and Woodward has done nothing this year to justify him being the coach again.
I agree there and think data would show a high percentage of 8 ball racks only have one player come to the the table. Top players have too many skills not to try to run out.Big deal. Watching top pros play 8b is pretty dull. Its too easy for them. I hear all this bs about how strategic and 'move filled' 8b is. Wrong. Go watch top pros play it, its a joke,
The 4th and 5th spots on the Mosconi Cup representing the USA have been problematic for several years. Fedor, SVB and Sky are assured positions and I thought Tyler was also locked in but not so sure nowadays. Oscar, Dechane, Tyler, Wolford all look sub 800 Fargo ratings which isn't going to work for the last two positions. You might have a competitive chance with 4 players over 820 or so but not 3 players. We need another player to make the USA his home.

Not with pros it doesn't. They run out all the time. There aren't any safety-filled games when pros play 8b. Maybe with ams but not when the best play.I remember some years ago CSI saying that 8b pro events were by far the most popular of their events in terms of viewership.
I think the broader pool community of league players etc do want to watch 8b. And I agree with them - in many ways 8b involves way more strategic decisions on how to play the out.

C'mon man. Not much strategy to running out in 8b.I don’t disagree that they do get out almost all the time. My point is that HOW they get out is the strategic point.
When I watch Shane or Darren or Corey their patterns are always excellent (and not what I always expect). Some other pros that don’t have an 8b background (or 14.1 background) make questionable choices - they still get out a lot though through pure skill.
Exactly. 8ball on the bar box has some strategic play, but on the big tables, 8ball is a run-fest in which the first player to make a ball nearly always wins the rack. Not with pros it doesn't. A bit of exaggeration there. From the streamed matches I watched in last year's World 8-Ball:... 8ball is a run-fest in which the first player to make a ball nearly always wins the rack. ...
A bit of exaggeration there. From the streamed matches I watched in last year's World 8-Ball:
• The player who made the first ball after the break:- Won the game in that same inning 69% of the time (140 of 204)- Won the game in a later inning 7% of the time (15 of 204)- Lost the game 24% of the time (49 of 204)
