"Been Working on my Mental Game Alot, It's All Mental After You Reach A Certain Level." What are your thoughts on this, Monica Webb said this when she first placed 3rd in the Nationals along time ago. I agree. What about you?

Certainly it is all mental. I would venture that most pros have run 8-10 racks of 8 ball and 9 ball at one time or another. Its the guys who can hold it together under pressure, think clearly and shoot the right shots that win consistently.

Couldn't agree more. :)

I think that is the point that Bert was trying to convey to Fast Eddie in "The Hustler". He told him that he was a loser and always will be because he did not want to win.

What does something being 'Mental' mean?

Aren't systems for aiming, kicking, deflection angles, strategy analysis etc all processed mentally?

Do you really mean confidence, concentration or focus?

Anyway, I think confidence, feeling comfortable and concentration are very important, but so it the knowledge base which can always be increased.

And more than that, too. I think it---and by golly I'm not a pro player by a loong shot, but I've done a few successful things in my day---I think it is ALWAYS a process of successful, honest integration of, not just mental things, but the whole shebang: mental, physical, psychological, philosophical, sexual, business, finances, time management, political, spiritual, morality, and whatever else is an important part of the player's life. To ignore any of these and focus on just one aspect will, imho, stifle growth and limit success, especially for players at the highest levels of any game.

I don't think there are easy, one-size-fits-all answers for peak performance.

Inner Game of Tennis

Read it - only one chapter pertains to tennis. You reach a point where it is all about consistently getting in dead stroke. This book teaches you how.

That same shot you took in practice isn't the same shot that you took during a big match, even though it is.

That's why skill is not always enough. You have to want to take that tough shot in a hill hill match. When it comes down to it, some people really don't want that shot.
